Whether in Calgary or in Browntown, there were always preparations to be made for winter. The last bits of October's garden had to be brought in. There were enough apples for one more picking on the tree out back and October wanted her house to be ready for the snowfall before they left for Alaska.

She and Bam worked side by side, tackling each job together and working until it was finished. October had never had someone to work alongside with and she found that it made even the most mundane task enjoyable. Bam had never been a stranger to hard work but he had also never been rewarded for even the simplest of chores before with a sweet kiss. That was his favourite part. He found himself looking forward to even the most unpleasant task just so he could reap the reward upon completion, especially when the sweet kisses led to much more.

As they worked together, they felt themselves growing closer with every passing day. They learned so many new and exciting things about each other as they talked the days away while getting ready for the next season. In the evenings they would retire inside, once the sun went down, to share a meal they'd made together and perhaps a shower or a bubble bath before making love and falling asleep.

One unseasonably warm afternoon, October found Bam at the bottom of the yard, picking the last of the apples off her tree. He had stripped off his shirt in the late autumn sun and she watched the muscles in his back move under the skin as he reached up to pull another piece of fruit off the high branch.

"Mmm, I'll have a piece of that." She murmured. Bam grinned over his shoulder at the sound of her voice. "Damn woman, you're insatiable."

October smirked. "Maybe." She shrugged. "Maybe you like it." She accused playfully.

He walked over to where she stood and pressed her body up against the length of his. "I love it!" He whispered huskily. He accepted the glass of iced tea she offered. When the glass was empty, he bent to set it on the ground and leaned his back against the trunk of the tree with his legs straight out in front of him. He beckoned for October to sit between his thighs which she did, leaning her back against his chest and turning her head to the side enough for his whiskers to tickle her neck. "This is the last of the jobs that needs to be done. What are we going to do with ourselves for the next two days until our flight leaves?"

October closed her eyes as his warm lips found the sensitive spot right below her ear. "I can think of a few things." She replied.

"Insatiable." Bam chuckled against her hair and drew in a deep breath. He loved the way she smelled after spending much of the day out of doors. Like fresh breeze and clover with a hint of her ever-present peppermint tea.

"We haven't talked about names yet." October offered. "Do you have any in mind?"

Bam bent his head to nibble along the back of her neck and murmured something intentionally inaudible.

October giggled. "I'm not sure how to spell that. Could you repeat it please?"

Bam growled low in his chest and slipped her bra strap off her shoulder. His lips returned to her collarbone and she sighed. "What letter does that start with?" She could feel him smile against her skin. She turned her head to feel his beard rough against her cheek. He captured her mouth with his. October whimpered as Bam's hand slipped inside her top to palm her lace-covered breast. His tongue slipped inside her mouth and danced with hers as his fingers teased her nipples to hard little buds. A voice interrupted them.

"Geez! Would you two get a room already?" August made a disgusted sound and shielded his eyes.

The two lovers pulled away from each other reluctantly and shared a smile as Bam got to his feet and helped October up. "Dude, if you'd stop showing up, we wouldn't have to." He quipped.

August made a sour face that made Robert chuckle. Bam stepped forward to shake hands with the two men. October straightened her clothes and hid her face behind her blonde hair. Robert laughed at her attempt to hide her blush as he gave her a warm hug. "How's the little mama feeling?"

"I'm good. Thank you." She replied, giving August a hug as well. "What brings you two by?"

"We thought you might like to have dinner in the city together before you leave." October's eyes looked to Bam in question and they silently agreed without exchanging a word. That was new, October thought. She loved that they could communicate without talking.

"That sounds nice." she replied to her brother. August and Bam fell into conversation as the four adults began making their way to the house. Robert and October followed behind.

Robert turned to speak quietly to her. "Your brother is worried about you travelling in your condition. He's a bit of a worrier, in case you didn't know. Don't tell him I told you." he grinned.

October slipped her hand into Robert's and gave him a soft smile. "He always has been. It's always been just the two of us to worry about each other. It's difficult to get used to the idea of widening our little family circle to include more people." She squeezed his hand affectionately. "I'm glad he's found you."

"Me too." Robert squeezed her hand back. "Have you chosen names yet?" he asked, moving on to lighter topics.

October shook her head. "That's what we were just discussing when you arrived."

"Mm hm." Robert grinned sardonically. "Sure looked like you were talking." He teased. October's cheeks tinged pink as she looked away. "May I suggest 'Robert'? It's a very noble name."

October laughed out loud. "What if it's a girl?"

Robert's brows knit together. "Oh, I hadn't thought of that." He paused. "Roberta - for a girl. Lovely!"

October laughed at her dear friend. Life was good indeed.

I'm loving the name suggestions you've been sending my way - so creative! Keep them coming please! (For boys and girls - I haven't revealed the gender of the baby yet.)

What do you think of my new cover? Go back to the old one? Yay nor nay?

I added some images to chapters 24 (trapper shack floor plan) and 26 (Hei Matau necklace). More images to come.

A sincere thank you for the votes!
