An Alaskan Bush People Fanfiction.
Two people from different worlds would never have had their paths cross under any typical circumstances, but in the modern world of reality TV nothing is ever typical.
After a big Christmas dinner, the excitement of the day began to wear on October. Bam noticed and quickly whisked her away to the trapper shack. They still had their own gifts to exchange and he didn't want her to fall asleep before they had a chance to do so. "Me first." October grinned and sat opposite from him on top of the bed. "Close your eyes." Bam did so with a smile. "No peeking." She ordered as she got off the bed. Bam grinned. "You could always blindfold me." He could hear her rummaging around near the shelf by the wall. "I'd almost forgotten about that." She said off handedly. Bam hummed low in his chest. "I didn't forget." His pulse quickened a touch at the memory. October returned to him on the bed and straddled his thighs. "If I remember correctly, I threatened to gag you as well." She lowered her mouth to brush against his lips. "I would never do that. Then I couldn't do this." She covered his mouth with a searing kiss. She parted her lips to let his tongue explore her mouth lazily. She pulled away before he wanted her to. He made a sound of regret. "Can I open my eyes now?" "Give me your hand first." He held both hands in front of him and felt something being slid on his left ring finger. "With this ring, I thee wed." She whispered and linked their hands together. He opened his eyes. A wide band of off-white shone at him in the flame-light.

"I didn't have time to get you a wedding ring when we got married." Bam looked closer to inspect the ring. It had a dull lustre and dark flecks embedded within the smooth ivory colour. He immediately knew that it could be nothing other than "Deer antler." He finished the thought aloud. October nodded. "Did you make this?" He asked with more than a little incredulity in his voice. She nodded. "I had a little help. Bear got me the piece of antler and Matt helped me with the shaping. It's a little different to work with than cow bone. I hope you like it." Bam brought his hands up to cup the back of her head. "Baby, I love it." Her eyes sparked at his admission. "Really?" He nodded before kissing her soundly. "Really." He reassured after he broke his mouth off from hers. Never had a piece of jewellery meant so much to him. "Now it's my turn." He got up from the bed and walked round the end to the trunk. "Do I have to close my eyes?" October asked with a smile. Bam shook his head. "Not this time." He opened the trunk and pulled out a large box wrapped in gold paper and tied with an iridescent green ribbon. He returned to the bed and set it in her lap. Her eyes widened and she smiled widely. "Should I make some guesses?" She held it up to her ear and rattled it gently. He shook his head. "No, just open it!" He said with at tiny hint of impatience. She could tell that he was excited too. She tore off the paper and opened the box. Her expression fell immediately. "It's lingerie." She stated flatly. Bam nodded. "Lace lingerie." He added enthusiastically. "My favourite." He pulled it out of the box to place it in her hands. She pushed it away. "You bought me lingerie?" Bam's eyes widened. This was not exactly the reaction he had been hoping for. "Yes." He replied meekly. "Bam! I'm as big as a whale!" Her voice rose an octave. "How could you expect me to even fit into this?" She fingered the flimsy fabric and set it back in the box. Bam donned a deer-in-the-headlights look. "The saleslady at the maternity store said-" She turned around on the bed so that her back faced him. She stifled a sob. Air, he needed air - and a minute to figure out exactly what had just transpired. He rose from the bed, slipped on his boots and went out the door. The frigid winter air hit Bam's face as he stepped out of the shack. Silently he chastised himself and his choice of Christmas presents for October. How could he have been so stupid? How could he have picked such a self-serving gift? He scrubbed both hands down his face. And the day had been going so well! They'd made love just that morning and had a wonderful Christmas. Rainy was ecstatic that she would be able to accompany them to Calgary, and truth be known, he was pretty pleased too. Thoughts of leaving Rainy behind had plagued him before he received that letter.
The letter. He'd thought about that a lot over the course of the afternoon. What exactly did the letter mean? It had been written only in his mother's handwriting. The part of the form set aside for the father's signature had been left blank. Bam realized that the chances of his father not even knowing about the letter were pretty good. Once again, his heart softened just a little toward his mother. She must have known how much it meant to him and Rainy to have the permission form. She must have also known that going behind Billy's back to grant that permission could cost her dearly in the future should Billy ever find out. Bam shook his head. That part was out of his control.
The lamplight through the trapper shack window flickered, casting a shadow on the fresh snow outside as October moved around within. Bam sighed. Time to go make apologies for being an ass. He listened to the sound of his boots crunching the snow as he struggled to come up with the right words to say.
Inside the trapper shack October wiped her eyes and smoothed back her hair. She glared accusingly at the box in torn paper on the bed. She thought hard about exactly what Bam meant by giving her that kind of gift. Did he mean that he wanted her old body back - one that was thin and pretty and free of stretch marks? She reconciled that thought with the Bam that she knew. Perhaps she had misinterpreted his intentions. Bam didn't think she was undesirable. His every action told her otherwise. He'd made love to her just that morning. He told her she was beautiful every day. This gift was his way of telling her that he thought she was still sexy and she had ruined it by being a shrew. She checked the tags. It was maternity lingerie, just as he had said. She held up the silky, green baby doll dress and matching lace panties. They really were pretty. Maybe they actually would fit.
Bam opened the door to the shack timidly and held his breath. October sat on the edge of the bed covered in nothing but the lacy underthings he had just gifted her with. He stepped fully into the shack and closed the door behind him without saying a word. This turn of events he was not prepared for. October stood up and came towards him. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and chewed her lip nervously.
"I thought you were tired." He said. His tongue darted out of his mouth to moisten his lips. "I caught a second wind." She stopped in front of him, close enough for her body to brush up against the front of his. "I'm sorry for being crazy." She said shyly. "I could blame hormones but that would be a cop-out." "It's okay." He whispered. His throat was suddenly dry. "I'm sorry too. I'm still learning how to be a husband and-" October quieted him with a finger on his lips. "Do you-" she stepped back from him a fraction and invited him to rake his eyes down her body. "Do you like it?" Bam's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. Oh yeah. He liked it. He liked it a lot. It looked better on her than he could have ever imagined. The sage green lace played off her creamy white skin beautifully in the light of the flame. She was breathtaking. The uncertainty in her eyes called him to action. Without taking his eyes off of her, he stepped out of his boots. He lifted his hands to caress her skin, one hand on the small of her back and the other hand clasped firmly around her palm.
"You know we have never had a first dance as husband and wife." He murmured. "May I have this dance?" Her eyes shimmered in the dim light. "We don't have any music." She replied. Bam turned his head to the side slightly. "We don't need any." He flattened her palm against his chest. "We have my heartbeat." Then he flattened his palm against her chest. "And your heartbeat." She nodded as she brought his other hand to press against her belly. "And baby's heartbeat." She added. He dipped his head to glance at her pregnant belly covered by the filmy nightgown and smiled softly. "Three heartbeats to keep rhythm." The size of her protruding bump did make it a challenge to fit their bodies together but October found a way by pressing her forehead into Bam's collarbone. She felt his breath lightly across her bare skin as they swayed in unison to the music only they could hear. She felt so delicate in his arms. If this is what he wanted her to feel when he chose the lingerie for her, his mission was accomplished. She felt beautiful and sexy and wanted. She lifted her head to brush her lips across his ear. "Merry Christmas, Lover." Outside, the wind blew and the snow sparkled in the light of the full moon. It had been a good Christmas indeed.
