"What?" October's hand froze on Bam's cheek.
Bam closed his eyes and repeated himself. "I've got a new girlfriend and she's moving in tomorrow."
"Okay, you're just going to have to back the truck a little bit for me right now." October sat back against the couch. Her mind reeled to find any logic in what Bam had just said.
Bam scrubbed a hand down his face and let out a deep breath. "It's not real." He muttered. "It's for the show. Myra told me I needed a love interest. That's why I asked you, even though I knew you would say no. It turns out it wasn't that simple. She's hired an actress to be my girlfriend."
"But Bam," October protested. "She's moving in?"
Bam nodded. "Not really, of course. But camera crews will be here tomorrow to film the two of us waking up and spending time together."
"To film the two of you doing what?" October's voice rose another octave.
"The script has us waking up together, getting ready for the day and saying good bye to each other before we go to work."
"And you agreed to this?" Bam nodded. "You agreed to lay down beside another woman. You agreed to let her touch you the way I do. You agreed to kiss her with the same mouth that kisses mine."
Bam sighed. "It's not like that." He protested weakly.
"Then tell me what it is like." She levelled at him.
"It's in my contract."
"People break contracts everyday. There must be an escape clause."
"I can't quit the show."
"You don't need the show."
"Its my job, October."
"No Bam. It's your life."
"It was my life before I met you."
"Yes." she said quietly. "But it wasn't mine."
He nodded his understanding.
Bam ran his hand roughly through his hair. "It doesn't mean anything. It's just for the show."
"It means something to me." She said vehemently. "So now Myra's calling the shots in your own life and telling you who to be with. Sounds like a pimp to me. I guess that's right. You are getting paid." Bam winced but remained silent. "And where do you expect me to be when this is going on?"
Bam hung his head. "It would be best if you left." He said haltingly.
It took her less than three minutes to pack her things into her bag and return to the living room. "Make sure you change the sheets before you lay down with her." She said over her shoulder before she walked out of his apartment and out of his life.
