October woke early in the morning, alone in the bed. She took a moment to remember how exactly she came to be sleeping somewhere other than her own room. "Good morning." She said quietly as she entered the kitchen, still in her pyjamas. "Good morning." Bam greeted her from where he stood at the stove. "Did you sleep well?"
She nodded and smiled shyly at him. "You're up early." She observed. "I couldn't sleep." He told her while buttering two slices of toast that had just popped out of the toaster. He didn't tell her that when he awoke, her soft body was wrapped around his like the last six months had never happened. He didn't tell her that when he shifted in the bed, her tshirt rode up around her waist and exposed her lace-clad bottom. And he certainly didn't tell her that when she rolled over, said pert, little, lace-clad bottom pressed back into his groin. Suddenly some parts of him were a hell of a lot more awake than others and he felt the urgent need to go make breakfast.
October took a seat at the table and yawned. Bam carried two plates over, set one in front of her and kissed the top of her head. "I hope you're hungry." She stared at the plate in front of her while he returned to the cupboard. Retrieving two glasses and the orange juice from the fridge, he turned back towards the table. October was gone.
A moment later he could hear her retching in the bathroom. He filled a glass with water and went to take it to her. The door was closed. He knocked.
"Don't come in." She groaned.
He waited by the closed door until he heard the toilet flush and the water run. He knocked again. She didn't answer. He opened the door. October was sitting on the floor with her eyes closed, looking like death warmed over. She spoke without opening her eyes. "Leave me alone."
"Do you need anything?" He asked. October groaned loudly again and turned away from him. "Bam, just go away."
Bam crossed his arms and leaned his hip against the counter. "Does this happen a lot?"
"What do you care?" She said quietly but not without contempt.
He paused for a moment and then spoke softly. "It's my baby too."
She swung her head round to glare at him through narrowed eyes. "You didn't seem so sure yesterday."
Bam looked at the ceiling and grimaced. "Just go away." She whispered as she turned back towards the wall.
"I'm sorry." He whispered.
"Sorry for what? That you knocked me up?"
Bam winced at her crudeness. "No. I'm sorry for those things I said yesterday. I didn't mean them."
Her breath hitched and he realized she was crying. "If you don't want this baby, I gave you the opportunity to leave. Why are you still here?"
"Because I love you." He replied. It was the most honest thing he'd said to her since he arrived. She didn't turn back to look at him. She lifted the hem of her nightshirt and wiped her eyes.
Bam didn't know what to do so he did the only thing he could think of. He bent to gather her in his arms and carried her out of the bathroom.
