The three of them all had dinner together and a slice of the cake Nevaeh had made for her mom with Joe's help before it was time for Nevaeh to go to bed. It left Joe and Demi alone together in the living room Demi enjoying his company even if it was only for a little bit longer before he had to go home himself and settle down for the night.

"If it's your birthday where's your family and all your friends?" Joe inquired Demi sighing slightly, she saw the question coming. It's part of the reason she hadn't told him it was her birthday today because on birthdays you are surrounded by family and friends.

"I don't have my family and Colton is working, we're spending the day tomorrow instead." Demi explained her eyes on the floor.

"We don't have to talk about your family if you don't want but you only have Colton as a friend?" Joe questioned, he admitted he was wondering where all Nevaeh's family was when she was at the hospital but it made sense now Demi admitted she didn't have her family and Nevaeh's dad ran out on her before she was even born.

"I guess I lost contact with all my school friends, I met Colton at college. I've never been very good at making friends." Demi admitted.

"It's just a bit sad to me that you don't have anyone but your daughter around on your birthday." Joe admitted looking down at her.

"You're here aren't you?" Demi questioned Joe nodding his head.

"You don't have any presents either but Nevaeh told me just in time for the shops to shut." Joe stated wondering out the room to his jacket pocket pulling out small box before wondering back into the living room Demi looking over at him.

"Joe you didn't..." She begun but she was soon cut off by Joe.

"Shut up and accept the gift," He smirked slightly making Demi laugh taking the box from him. She carefully opened the paper finding a jewellery box. She lifted the velvet box revealing a ring. "I didn't know what to get you because I don't know you that well but I noticed you liked wearing rings." Demi smiled looking at him.

"It's beautiful Joe, thank you." Demi breathed pecking his lips gently.

"Your welcome and we're going out for dinner tomorrow, I already asked Colton if he would babysit and he said yes." Demi shook her head a smile on her face.

"You didn't have to." Demi stated.

"Would you stop?" Joe questioned laughing. "It's your birthday and a birthday girl gets presents on her birthday." He kissed her temple gently wrapping his arm around her as she leaned her head on his shoulder yawning slightly.

"The birthday girl is tired." She mumbled making Joe laugh.

"The birthday girl can't go to bed at the same time as her four-year-old daughter."

"You wanna bet?" Joe laughed kissing the top of her head.

"Thanks for coming over, it means a lot. I know you have an early morning tomorrow." Demi stated as she followed Joe to the door both of them being quiet so they didn't wake Nevaeh up from her slumber. Joe turned around his keys in his hand ready.

"I booked the afternoon off anyway, I need some time to myself every once in a while," Joe admitted Demi nodding her head in agreement. "Happy birthday Demi." Demi smiled as he kissed her gently kissing him back before they both pulled away.

"Thanks, goodnight." Demi watched as he drove away before she shut the door locking it. She made sure the house was secure before making her way upstairs. She stripped from her clothes getting under the covers. She closed her eyes falling asleep straight away.
