Thirty Eight

Zack looked over at her standing up running over. Demi was a little confused as he hid something behind his back but smiled when he showed her handing it out for her to take which she did leaning down kissing his cheek gently. It was a Daisy.

"Thank you Zack, let's go inside," Zack took hold of her hand leading him inside sitting him up on the couch before she saw down next to him texting Joe to say that he was here. She'd leave him to talk to him about running away again. She was just relieved he was safe. "I'm going to lay Mason down, want to help?" Zack nodded his head following her into Mason's room. She mainly just wanted to keep her eye on him so he wouldn't run out again, it would take some doing catching him up when she had Mason now too.

Joe rushed into the apartment again lifting Zack up in his arms relieved to see him unharmed, he also knew how much trouble he would get into if Zack were to be hurt. But he cared more about Zack being here then how much trouble he would get into. He was really starting to care about both boys and they had barely been in his life for a week.

"I think he went out to give me this." Demi stated handing Joe the daisy's Zack had given her just ten minutes ago. Joe looked up at Zack as he was taller in his arms.

"Did you?" Joe inquired Zack nodding his head gently a small smile on his face but nothing big, they knew he was still unsure about where he was and whether they were going to hurt him or not but they couldn't blame him one bit. Joe sat him down on the couch kneeling down on the floor by him, Zack knew now he was in trouble. "Zack you can't just leave like that, you could get hurt or something, you scared me and Demi."

"It's nice you wanted to get me a flower but we didn't know where you were." Demi added in Zack looking down at the ground.

"Do you understand now that you can't leave?" Zack nodded his head gently looking up at Joe as he stood up again.

"Sorry." He mumbled Joe cracking a small smile not wanting to make a fuss out of one word that he said, he didn't want to scare him into not speaking again but he'd do it in his own time.

"It's okay, watch SpongeBob for a little bit. I'll make dinner." Joe stated switching the show on him before wondering into the kitchen Demi following behind him.

"You okay?" Demi inquired Joe nodding his head.

"Yeah, just glad he's okay," Joe answered grabbing an onion beginning to chop it up. "Do you want to stay for dinner?"

"Yeah, Colton will be feeding Nevaeh and I'll pick her up afterwards." Demi answered kissing his cheek gently Joe cracking a small smile.

"If he weren't being so cute I would have been harsher with him but come on, he went out to get you a flower." Joe complained making her laugh.

"Yeah he is cute but I think you said the right things to him and he knows it's wrong. He's never had boundaries before because his parents didn't care but he knows now not to leave without you or another adult he knows." Demi answered.

"I plan to be the fun parent anyway." Joe chuckled.

"You'll have to be both Joseph, you're their mother and dad." Demi smirked slightly laughing as he rolled his eyes.

"Do you want to cook dinner? I plan for these hands to save lives not kill them." Joe stated making her laugh again leaning up pecking his lips.

"Of course." She approved taking the knife from him continuing to chop the onion as Joe got Zack a drink and left the room.
