Sixty Three

"Wait! We didn't pack anything for Kai." Demi exclaimed as they were about to pull away Joe sighing. He knew she was right, she wanted their son to wear something special when he arrived and not something the hospital provide and she hadn't gotten round to picking it yet. Joe leaned over kissing her gently before he climbed out the car.

"I won't be long, just keep calm." Joe encouraged as he rushed up the steps but quietly entered the house knowing the three children were asleep. Denise came to meet him in the hall.

"That was quick." Joe chuckled taking in a deep breath.

"Demi forgot to pack which clothes she wanted him to wear when he's here, I won't be long but can you keep an eye on Demi for me?" Denise nodded her head as he started heading upstairs going two steps at a time heading into Kai's nursery where he picked up one of the clothes that were hanging from the crib, Demi had two options so he knew she would like it.

"Daddy." He heard a voice looking over at the door seeing Zack. He lifted him up in his arms kissing his head gently.

"Sorry did I wake you?" Zack shrugged his shoulders gently. "Your baby brother is coming, me and mommy are on our way to the hospital."

"At this time?" He mumbled making Joe laugh.

"Yes and mommy is hurting so daddy needs to get back to her, do you think you could go back to sleep for us?" Zack nodded his head as Joe headed into his room again laying him down in his bed pulling the covers over him. "See you soon." He left the room shutting the door behind him seeing Denise in the doorway keeping an eye on Demi from the house.

"Everything okay?" She inquired.

"Yeah Zack just woke up; he should be back to sleep though." Joe answered giving her a quick hug before they pulled away.

"Good luck!" Denise praised Joe smiling as he left the house.

"Thanks!" He called but not too loud before jogging down to the car climbing in passing Demi the clothes before strapping himself in. "How are you?"

"Could be better," Demi breathed taking hold of his hand again as Joe pulled off. "I think he's eager to see us."

"Why?" Joe inquired.

"I just feel as if the labour is progressing quite fast." Demi admitted Joe taking in a deep breath before he started going as fast as he could legally towards the hospital who knew they were on their way and were preparing for their arrival.

"How are you doing?" Joe questioned when they were about halfway there still having hold of her hand knowing when she was going through a contraction her grip would tighten and he would help her through it as well as keeping an eye on the road.

"The contractions are getting really close together." Demi choked slightly in a huge amount of pain, scared of the situation.

"We'll be there soon." Joe assured her but he was worried himself, they were both shattered it being the time of the day it was.

"Will we be there in time though." Demi stammered Joe sighing shrugging his shoulders wanting to be honest with her but that was when the car started slowly down and jumping slightly. Joe let out a groan of frustration hitting the steering wheel slightly as he used all the car's power to head into the hard shoulder so they weren't obstructing other traffic.

"We've broken down." Joe spoke honestly to Demi who groaned beginning to cry.

"I don't want to have my son at the side of the road!"
