Demi shushed the four year old in her arms as she was hysterical. She didn't like to see her daughter like this and wished that she could make everything better for her but she couldn't see how she could until she had her hospital appointment in a couple of days. Nevaeh was born with heart problems and has suffered ever since Demi having to hold her and shush he everytime she was in pain like she was now. It was hard for a mother having to see her daughter like this but she was used to it now, seeing her own daughter in pain. Nevaeh soon fell asleep against her mother Demi sighing slightly of relief kissing her hair gently. She stood up laying Nevaeh down in her bed bringing the covers up her making sure that she was warm and comfortable before heading downstairs.

"Hey is she okay?" Demi nodded her head gently.

"She's asleep." Demi sighed slumping down on the couch next to him smiling as he wrapped his arm around her kissing the side of her head.

"Everything will be okay with her soon enough, she won't be in pain for much longer." He reassured her but it didn't really make Demi feel any better.

"I hope so." Demi breathed.

"Listen to your best friend since we were little kids, Nevaeh will be just fine. Do you want me to come down to the hospital with you on Tuesday?" Demi nodded her head gently.

"Thanks Colton, it means a lot that your here for both of us. I know you're not her father but she sees you're as her father more than she does her real father." Demi stated.

"She's an amazing little girl, Nathan is a jerk for walking out on both of you. He keeps letting you both down, don't let him. Keep him from seeing her then if he really wanted to see her he would fight for it." Colton encouraged.

"I just don't like the idea of her not having her father around." Demi confessed.

"I'm her father for now alright? Don't worry about that." Demi smiled kissing his cheek gently, he was always there for her and she couldn't thank him enough.

"Thanks Colton."

"Don't worry about it, go to bed and get some rest. I'll go clean up and get the dinner pots washed then go home and lock the door behind me." Demi thanked him one last time before she went upstairs changing into her pyjamas before getting under the covers with Nevaeh smiling as the little girl snuggled into her chest. She hoped the hospital could do something for them this time, so her daughter wasn't in pain anymore.

Joe entered work early the next morning having taken an early shift, he doesn't mind getting up early as long as he sees all the children. He made his way into the children's ward seeing a lot of the children already up and waiting for their breakfast. He took a tray off another nurse before making his way over to the side of the bed of a five year old boy.

"Morning Tommy, how are you feeling this morning?" Joe questioned setting the tray down in front of Tommy who picked up the spoon straight away.

"Me feel better." Tommy admitted.

"The operation on his arm went well, they are letting him go once he's eaten something." Tommy's father explained Joe nodding his head a smile on his face.

"Just don't go breaking that arm as well, you need at least one working arm." Joe joked making Tommy giggle.

"Thanks for being a friend to Tommy, we really appreciate it." Tommy's father stated Joe giving him a warm smile.

"It's not a problem, it's just my amazing job." They both laughed before Joe continued his journey down the ward greeting all the children and their parents as they greeted him back. Work to him wasn't a chore, he enjoyed it.
