Sixteen

Joe had a smile on his face as he entered the cubical a clipboard in his hands. Demi looked up at him with a smile on her face then looking down at Nevaeh.

"Look what Joey has!" Demi encouraged moving some hair out of her eyes revealing her hazel eyes looking over at Joe curious on what he had.

"What?" She questioned trying to look at what it was. Joe kneeled down by her bed showing her what he had Nevaeh looked confused making them both laugh.

"Mommy has to sign this then you can go home!" Joe exclaimed Nevaeh smiling.

"Really?" She questioned Joe nodding his head. "You come?"

"Joey has to work but you'll see him again sometime soon." Demi promised kissing her head gently picking the pen up scribing her name before handing the pen back to Joe who slipped it in his pocket. Joe stood up again putting the clipboard under his arm.

"I'll be over after work okay?" Joe questioned Nevaeh frowning nodding her head but giggled when Joe kissed her nose gently.

"I love-oo!" Nevaeh exclaimed making Joe chuckle.

"I love you too now have fun at home and don't give mommy any mischief." Joe accused making Nevaeh giggle again Demi smiling as Joe kissed her cheek before leaving to continue with his work knowing Demi would be taking Nevaeh home as soon as she could. He didn't want to get in the way of that. He knew how relieved Demi was that she was bringing Nevaeh home.

Nevaeh entered her home leaning on Demi as much as she needed but Demi wanted her to try and walk as much as she could. It was a relive that she was here at all. Demi lifted Nevaeh up when she saw she was struggling kissing her hair gently.

"I better mommy." She mumbled.

"You will be soon but for now you need to rest as much as you can then you'll be able to play like the other little boys and girls."

"Make friends?" She question Demi nodding.

"Loads of friends, let's get you to bed for a nap." Demi stated making her way upstairs keeping Nevaeh on her hip feeling her getting tired already. Once she had recovered that was it, she'd be a healthy little girl and Demi wouldn't have to worry about her anymore. Demi stripped Nevaeh down into her underwear, it was summer time so it was warm. She laid Nevaeh down into her bed bringing her covers up over her body to just below her neck.

"Wake up when Joey comes?" Demi nodded her head.

"Of course, Joey will want to make sure your okay." Demi stated stroking her hair gently. She admired how much her daughter had been through during her short life.

"Me like Joey." Nevaeh mumbled.

"Mommy likes him too," Demi cooed kissing her head gently. "Now get some rest otherwise Joey will tell us both off." Demi watched as Nevaeh shut her eyes keeping them closed before switching her night light on. She made sure the main light was off and the door was closed before making her way downstairs slumping down on the couch. She shut her eyes once before she fell to sleep after so long of worrying about Nevaeh. Now she was sure she was going to make okay. She could be happy and with Joe in her life looking forward to getting to know him some more. She slept with a smile on her face only awoken by the doorbell echoing throughout the house. She darted off the couch rushing over to the door seeing the time was already due for when Joe was coming over.

"Hey." Joe greeted smiling as he saw Demi half asleep.

"Hi." Demi breathed but smiled as he brought her into a hug, he kissed the top of her head gently as she snuggled into his chest.
