Sixty Eight

It was heart breaking for Joe and Demi to stand there and watch their son sleep with an IV giving him antibiotics so he could get himself better. They wished he could be healthy and could come home but he really came in a rush and it's something they would never forget, all the drama that came with his birth but as long as he stayed healthy and made it through this they wouldn't care anymore. They just wanted their little boy to be okay.

"I think he's going to be a lawyer." Joe grinned kissing Demi's neck gently as he stood behind her slightly bent down his arms wrapped around her middle Demi enjoying the comfort laying her hands on his hands. She ached everywhere but seeing her son washed all that away.

"I don't care what he turns out to be as long as he's happy." Demi answered her eyes on Kai as he slept peacefully, his fingers with flexing in his sleep kicking his legs every so often. She couldn't get over how beautiful he really was.

"I'm going to make sure he's happy, nothing is going upset him without me sorting it out," Joe stated Demi smiling shifting a bit. "Sit down baby girl, it's been a long day."

"But I won't see my handsome baby from down there." Demi pouted Joe forcing her gently to sit back down in the wheelchair.

"There will be plenty of time to see him," Joe assured her taking a seat on the chair. "Us sitting here and talking will allow him to get used to our voices."

"Look at you getting all doctor like," Demi teased Joe rolling her eyes at her but leaned down kissing her gently when she grabbed hold of her hand. "I love you really."

"Hum let me think about my answer," Joe teased back only gaining a smack. "Ouch, of course I love you. You gave me this sleeping baby."

"He is pretty loveable." Demi grinned.

It was allowed that evening that they would be allowed visitors. Joe would be staying the night and planned to for as long as it took Demi to recover, Denise would be taking the children until they could both come home. All of Joe's family were around and Colton had made it too, he was excited about becoming an Uncle again.

"Knock, knock." Paul grinned as he knocked on the door pushing it open. Joe and Demi greeted everyone as they entered. Kevin, Paul and Nick had waited here for a while to hear about any news and to comfort Joe before he had gone once he heard about Demi.

"How is Kai then?" Kevin inquired.

"He has sepsis and so does Demi so he has to stay here for an uncertain amount of time, Demi needs to recover from the surgery before she can come home." Joe explained.

"But they think he'll make it?" Paul questioned.

"It's hard to say, he's tiny and his immune system isn't great but there's no great worry that he'll grow any disabilities or pass away from it." Demi assured them all.

"That's great." Colton praised sitting on the edge of her bed Demi leaning against his shoulder as Joe begun to talk to his father and brothers. The following day Denise will be coming down with the children to see Demi but they wouldn't be able to see Kai quite yet. Joe was going to go home in the morning for a shower and to spend some time with the three of them since it was a Saturday morning the following morning.

"Happy?" Colton inquired Demi nodding her head.

"He's amazing already; I just hope he can get himself healthy so we can take him home." Demi admitted.

"You've been through a lot; he'll be fine because you deserve it." Colton assured her.

"I just wish mom and dad were here to meet him." Demi sighed but smiled as Colton wrapped his arm around her bringing her into a hug which she welcomed.
