Sixty Six

"Joe you should know something." Demi breathed sighing slightly when Joe sat down on the bed next to her wrapping his arm around her kissing the side of her head gently.

"What is it?" Joe inquired.

"I understand if you want to leave me but please still be in the children's lives," Demi begun speaking again before Joe could even say anything. "I can't have any more children because of the surgery, I came around when we were at the hospital long enough for them to ask for my consent to do the operation being fully aware it would stop me from having any more kids." Joe sighed slightly but didn't move from his spot on the bed.

"It's okay Demi, sure I would love to have more kids with you but we have four wonderful children now whether they are all biologically mine or not." Joe assured her.

"But you're only real child is now Kai; don't you want more biological children?" Demi inquired looking up at him Joe shaking his head leaning down kissing her gently Demi kissing back instantly the two of them smiling through the kiss before Joe pulled away but they remained close to one another Demi able to feel his breath on her lips.

"Not if they aren't from the woman I love." He whispered Demi smiling pecking his lips gently before snuggling up to him not caring that it caused her wound any pain.

"I love you too Joe." Demi answered.

"I'll always see Nevaeh as my daughter and Zack and Mason as my sons whether they are or not, I love them as much as I love Kai." Joe expressed.

"And they all love you too." Demi answered kissing his arm which was all she could get to. It did upset her that she couldn't have any more children with Joe but she knew he was right when he said they had Nevaeh, Zack and Mason as well as Kai. They were all their children and she wouldn't have it any other way.

It was about another hour when there was a knock on the door, they had sat there together for the whole time in small conversations and they were just falling asleep when the knock woke them up leaving them still exhausted.

"I've come with news about your baby boy." The midwife stated.

"Is he okay?" Demi questioned as Joe helped her sit up so her back was against the pillows Joe had stood up against the bedframe for her.

"He has sepsis which is an infection of the blood. We believe it was passed on by you while he was still in the womb so we'll need a blood test from you and you may need some treatment." She explained but it relieved them that they knew what was going on.

"Is he getting treatment?" Joe questioned.

"Yes he's getting antibiotics though an IV and he should pull through but he's young so we will have to keep a close eye on him." She explained again.

"Can we see him?"

"The doctor wants you to rest first then you will both be able to go down and see him during the afternoon when you feel better. You have just been in surgery so you'll need to recover before we try and move you." Demi sighed nodding her head.

"That's fine, thanks." Demi breathed.

"We'll be monitoring him closely for a couple of days then you may be able to hold him, did you have a name for him?"

"Kai Adam Jonas." Demi replied smiling up at Joe who smiled back down at her.

"I'll make sure his name is on his incubator." She promised wishing them well before leaving.

"Thank you." Joe pecked her lips gently.

"I just thought we could start a tradition off." Demi grinned.
