Katie P.O.V
It's now been 2 months since Livi and I found out that we would be going to separate academies in different countries. Livi kept saying that she wasn't going to go to London because she didn't want to be there without me but I told her that I wasn't going to let her pass up the opportunity. Of course we spent a few days where we did nothing but cry because we realised that we were going to be spending 3 years apart. We would visit each other when we could but that would only be about 3 times a year.
If I could afford to go to London I would but its a lot more expensive than we thought it was going to be. Livi obviously doesn't have to pay to attend the academy so she's renting an apartment nearby. I don't have to pay to attend NYC dance academy either and later this week I'm going to New York to look for an apartment as I don't have to leave for another 4 weeks but Livi is leaving in 5 days.
We've been speaking to Brad, James and Tristan a lot more often and they have already arranged to meet up with Livi when she gets to London and have said that they will be her tour guide. I could see that both James and Livi were excited that they were going to see each other again and I just wish that I could be there with them. I am obviously so grateful that I got a scholarship for NYDA but a part of me still wants to go to London and I don't think that will ever change.
Our apartment doesn't feel like a home anymore because its mostly packed up in boxes. We still have things like the couch, the TV and our beds but soon that will all be gone too. We've sold the apartment and we have to be out in 2 weeks so I am staying with Gemma until I can move into my apartment in New York, that's if I find one. We've quit our jobs, sold both our cars as we both don't need them where we're going, plus we have no way of getting them to New York or London and we have basically sorted everything out ready for moving.
"This doesn't feel right" Livi said as we flopped on the couch after we had finished packing up the remainder of her things.
"Yeah I know, I've gotten so used to spending everyday with you that I don't think I'll be able to cope not having you around."
"At least we will be able to Skype each other everyday and meet up during the holidays."
"What about time difference Livi and we both know that we cant afford to pay for flights 2 or 3 times a year."
"This is going to be a lot harder than I thought it was going to be."
"Well we still have 5 days together so lets make the most of them."
"Okay well what shall we do today?"
"Well to be honest I cant be bothered to go out so why don't we just watch some movies and order a take out, just have a chilled day."
"Sounds like a plan, I'll go get the take out menus" Livi said as she got up off the couch.
"What movies do you want to watch?"
"Ummm what about Twilight?"
"Yeah we can watch all 5 films."
I searched through one of the cardboard boxes, pulled out the twilight box set and put the disc into the DVD player. Livi came back into the living room with a bundle of menus as well as sodas, popcorn, sweets and chips.
We decided to order Chinese and after eating enough food for about 4 people we went on to scoff our faces with a ton of junk food. We were now onto Eclipse and all of a sudden there was a knock on the door. I paused the movie and walked over to the door but when I opened it there was no one there, just a large envelope on the floor. I picked it up, closed the door and sat back down on the couch.
"Who was it?" Livi asked.
"There wasn't anyone there but this was on the floor" I replied holding up the envelope.
"Who's it for?"
"Me."
"Well open it then."
I ripped open the envelope and inside was a note along with another envelope. The note was hand written but I didn't recognise the hand writing.
The note read:
Dear Katie,
I was given this envelope by your grandparents when you were brought to the orphanage. They told me to give it to you when you left the orphanage but I forgot all about it and for that I apologise. They said that whatever is in the envelope is a gift from your parents and to make sure that you make the right choice regarding it and to not feel like you have to take it. I hope that it will help you and that your not receiving it too late.
Linda Richards
"Who's it from?"
"The notes from Linda."
"As in Linda from the orphanage?"
"Yeah."
"So what does it say?"
I paused for a moment realising that the envelope in my hand was a gift from my parents "It says that this is a gift from my parents."
"Your parents" Livi whispered.
I simply nodded and I could feel a tear roll down my cheek as I began to think about my parents. I then ripped open the second envelope and pulled out the folded up bundle of paper. I carefully unfolded the letter and wiped away my tears with the back of my hand so I could read it. My mouth fell open in shock as I read the letter.
"Katie what is it?"
I tried to speak but no words came out of my mouth. I took a deep breath before replying "It's a scholarship for the London Dance academy."
"What" Livi shouted "how did your parents know?"
"Well when I was 11 we went to London and we drove past it and I told my parents that I wanted to go there when I was older, they obviously remembered and got me a scholarship."
"Katie this means we get to go to London together."
"Yeah I guess we do" I laughed through sobs and Livi flung her arms around me.
"Even though both our parents aren't here to watch us live our dreams they are still looking down on us and this is a perfect example of that."
"Yeah I guess they are."
"Of course they are, now come on we need to call NYDA and tell them that you no longer want the scholarship."
"Yes we do and then I need to call the estate agent and tell them I don't need to come and look for an apartment."
"Yep you definitely don't need that apartment because we are going to be living together!" Livi screamed.
"This is so exciting."
"Good job my apartment has two bedrooms."
"I cant believe this is actually happening."
"Well believe it because we have 5 days to pack up your things, book you a flight and sort everything out in New York."
"We better get started then" I laughed.
