45 - Getting To Know You

Katie P.O.V

"Anyone seen Brad?" Tristan asked as I opened our hotel room door.

"No why?" I asked.

"We can't find him anywhere!"

"Well when did you last see him?' Livi asked.

"This morning, he seemed a bit down then he went out and hasn't come back."

"I think I might know where he is" I said.

"Really where?" Tristan asked.

"Just stay here and I'll be back soon" I said before leaving the hotel room.

I remember Brad telling me the one place he liked to go to think and as soon as Tristan said that he looked a bit down this morning I knew that this would be the only place he would go. Sure enough as I walked along the beach I saw Brad sat on the end on the pier dangling his feet over the edge.

I didn't say anything I just sat down beside him so he knew I was there. Brad and I were still friends, obviously, but we aren't as close as we used to be. I don't think we could ever be because I feel different around him. He's no longer like a brother, I see him different and it makes me act strange around him.

"How did you know I would be here?" Brad spoke up.

"I remember you telling me that you liked to go to a river or by the sea to think."

"You remembered that?"

"Of course I did."

He paused again before replying "Bet everyone is worried sick."

"Yeah you didn't exactly let them know that you were going to be gone all day so what do you expect, we're your friends."

"I guess I just wanted a bit of time alone to think."

"Do you want me to leave?"

"No stay, I could use the company now. I've spent enough time on my own."

"Are you okay?" I asked "you don't seem yourself and I'm not the only one who has noticed!"

Brad sighed and put his head in his hands "Emily cheated on me."

"What? Why would she do that?"

"I don't know, but what I do know is that you were right and I should have listened so I'm sorry."

"Brad you just did what you thought was right and I can't blame you for that but I am sorry that this happened."

"Its not your fault."

I paused for a minute before replying "When did this happen?"

"About 3 weeks ago now."

"Why didn't you say anything?"

"Because I knew that everyone would make a big fuss about it and I didn't want that."

"Well what did you expect us to do, we knew you loved her so we would want to make sure you were okay."

"That's the thing though, I didn't love her."

"You didn't?"

"No."

"Then why stay with her?"

"Honestly I have no idea, at the time it felt right but now I don't know why I even put up with her!"

"I think we've all done something like that, well I know I have" I laughed.

We sat and talked for a while before deciding to walk along the beach and watch the sunset. It's peaceful here at this time of night and the complete opposite to what its like in the daytime but I guess that's why I love the beach so much.
