Katie P.O.V
Today me and Livi were going to Santa Monica and I was so excited. I only found out yesterday so I didn't have much time to prepare and pack my bag which meant I was rushed as I had to pack enough things for two weeks, but I didn't care.
The sooner I got away from here the better. I had spent the last few days in my bedroom and I hadn't left the apartment once. I didn't want to take the risk of seeing Joe but if I wasn't in the same city as him then I wouldn't have to worry.
"Katie are you coming?" Livi yelled from her bedroom.
"Yeah 5 minutes" I shouted back whilst stuffing the last few things into my suitcase.
"Alfie can't drive us there anymore so are you alright with taking a cab?" Livi asked as I walked out of my bedroom.
"Yeah that's fine, it's not that far away so it shouldn't cost too much."
"Okay it will be here in about 10 minutes."
"We won't leave until we have to." I replied. I wasn't taking any chances of bumping into Joe so the longer I stayed in the apartment the better.
The ten minutes passed pretty quickly so we ended up practically running down the stairs whilst bumping our suitcases down with us. We were both also carrying another bag so as you can imagine getting down the stairs was a bit of a challenge.
Luckily though we made it outside in time and the cab driver put our bags in the trunk whilst we got in the car. It only took around 30 minutes to get to Santa Monica and we pulled up outside the most amazing hotel right by the beach.
"Livi this place is amazing" I screamed as I stepped out car.
"I know and it's right by the beach!"
"How did you manage to get us a room here?" I asked "it looks really expensive!"
"Alfie helped me organise the whole thing, in fact he chose this place and where we booked last minute we got quite a good deal!"
"Well it's amazing and I love it so thank you."
"For what?"
"For bringing me here and organising everything."
"Seriously Katie it's the least I could do, I hate seeing you upset and you really deserve to get away so that you will actually leave the house!"
"I am so lucky to have you!" I said through both tears of joy and sadness and I flung my arms around Livi.
I suddenly remembered why we had come here in the first place and the memories started to all come flooding back.
"Come on let's go inside" Livi said whilst pulling on my arm. I think she had noticed my sudden change of mood and wanted to distract me.
We checked in at reception and got our room key. The hotel was fairly small with only around 50 rooms so it wasn't going to be really busy which I was quite glad about.
Luckily there was an elevator because our room was on the top floor. I really didn't want to have to lug my suitcase up 5 flights of stairs. We stepped out of the elevator and walked down the long hallway to our room.
"Oh my god" I screamed as Livi unlocked the door and pushed it open.I pushed past Livi and ran into the room jumping on one of the two double beds.
"This room is amazing." Livi added closing the door behind her.
The large room consisted of two double beds both with a bedside table either side. There was a large mirrored wardrobe against one of the walls and in the far corner was a couch and a coffee table. The en-suite bathroom had both a shower and a bath tub as well as the essentials and there was also a huge mirror on the wall above the two sinks. One of the walls in the bedroom had been replaced with glass doors that lead out onto a balcony. On the balcony was two chairs and a table and it had the most amazing view.
"Wow, Livi you have to see this!" I shouted to her from the balcony.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Come out onto the balcony."
"Okay but I don't see what can be so important..."
"You'll see."
"Wow" was all Livi managed to say as she joined me on the balcony.
"Isn't the view amazing!"
"Yeah, you can see for miles from up here."
From the top of our hotel you can see pretty much all of Santa Monica. Livi and I stood on the balcony for a while just taking in the amazing view. In Hollywood we never really did things like this, one because our apartment was only on the second floor and two because we never really had the time.
"Wait, what about our jobs? I asked "I didn't tell them that I was going away."
"Don't worry I sorted that all out, we haven't had a break from work in ages so they were fine with you taking a few weeks off."
"Okay, thank you."
"No problem, so how about we unpack and then head to the beach!"
"Sounds like a plan."
Livi and I spent the next hour unpacking all our things, there was actually a lot more than I thought there was. I put all my clothes in the wardrobe and all my wash things in the bathroom and in the drawers of my bedside table.
"You ready to go?" Livi asked.
"Yep, let's go" I replied picking up my phone, purse and sunglasses.
Once we were out of the hotel we headed straight to the beach. We found a spot on the sand and just sat and sunbathed. We spent the entire day there just talking, walking along the shore dipping our feet in the water and eating ice cream.
For the first time in the past week I finally felt happy and almost peaceful. I no longer spent hours crying over Joe, in fact I hadn't even mentioned or thought about him since we got here. Just being here I feel different but in a good way. Now all I have is Livi, and Alfie I suppose, there the only family I have but they are also the only family I need.
When I lost Joe I thought I lost everything but just being here today I realised that I don't need him. I survived just fine before I met him so why is it any different now. This holiday is just what I needed, I had to get away from everything that had happened back home.
"Livi what's going to happen when we go back home?" I asked as we walked back into our hotel room.
"What do you mean."
"Well I still can't face Joe and I don't think I will ever be able to again but he only lives a few doors down from us and I just don't think I can do it."
"Well hopefully we can avoid him and when we go home we can figure out something. I promise you that this holiday is the beginning of a new start."
"Thank you Livi, I don't know what I would do without you."
"Will you stop saying thank you, I told you I would help you get though this and that is exactly what I'm going to do."
A ran over to Livi and gave her a hug before getting into my pyjamas and going to bed as it was already 11pm. I laid in bed thinking about everything that had happened but one thing that was stuck in my mind was what Livi had mentioned earlier. 'A new start' yeah that's what I needed. I needed to forget everything bad that has happened and move on from it, maybe even learn from it. Livi's right this holiday is definitely going to mark the beginning of a new start.
