Chapter 12
Two months later...
I'm taking a stroll in the hallway before my first class starts when all of the sudden I collide into Derek, literally. My books went flying all over the place but thankfully Derek is in a seemingly chipper mood so instead of laughing at me scrambling for them, he helps me gather them and even carry them to class. "I'm sorry for crashing into you like that Myra. I just have some news for you." I raise an eyebrow skeptically. "News from the one and only Derek? I don't know I feel about this... but I'll let you tell me anyways. What's up?" Derek grins for ear to ear. "There's a rumor starting to go around that Clark has a huge thing for you."
My heart begins to race at the mere mention of his name. "R-really? When did this rumor start going around?" "Yesterday, though I don't know who started it. I swear it wasn't Becky or I. My best guess is someone in your Spanish class who's been watching the way he interacts with you." A blush creeps onto my face. "I hope the rumor is true. I've love for Clark to feel the same way about me as I do him. We've been getting along so well for the past few months. I'd love to be something more than friends eventually. I'm not going to rush it though. The last thing I want to do is scare him off. Clark's timid enough as is." Derek nods understandingly and we head to class.
Later that day... Spanish class...
I get to class late for once and everyone is a buzz. All heads turn to look at me as I hand Ms. Ramirez a late slip and take my seat next to Clark. Clark doesn't say a word to me when I sit down. I glance at him out of the corner of my eye and he's sweating nervously. I take it that he's heard about the famous rumor going around school. Shit. What if it scared him off and he never talks to me again... that would break my heart. I've made so much progress with him. I'd hate for it to be flushed down the toilet just like that.
Though as class ends, he acknowledges my presence, makes some small talk which isn't great but makes me feel better knowing that the rumor hasn't completely scared him off, but simply just boosted his nerves. The bell rings and he promises me to text me later. I give him a weak smile and head on to Music. Today we're doing a master class in there so at least I can't let out some of my frustrations through song. Like I've said before, music is one of my main outlets besides creative writing, but I also do geeky Youtube videos in my spare time. I'm a nerd I know. I'm not ashamed of being one, I embrace it.
That evening...
As promised, Clark texts me and explains why he was acting so weird today. It turns out that I was right, he did hear about the rumor. Though what surprised me was when I questioned him about it, he didn't exactly deny that he had feelings for me, but sadly he didn't confirm that he did either. We'll just have to wait and see what happens in time. Waiting a bit is better than straight up rejection in my opinion.
