Chapter 13
The next day...
I arrive at my locker to find Derek standing by it. "Morning Derek. What's up?" He moves closer to my side. "Morning Myra. I had a chat with Clark yesterday." The water that I just took a sip of comes flying out of my mouth. "WHAT? WHY?" Derek puts his hands on my shoulders and shakes me gently in an attempt to "calm me down." "I wanted to see what you were up for in terms of the kind of guy he is. By the way, I think he seems like a nice enough guy, just a tad strange is all." I stifle a small laugh. "So I've noticed." A moment of awkward silence passes before I break the silence. "Thank you Derek." Derek stares at me as though my kind words have taken him aback, which I think they have. Derek's used to my sarcasm and snark comments rather than sincerity, which is seldom for me these days. "Myra, what are you thanking me for?" I smile up at him since he's quite taller than me. "For being such a good and protective friend." He smiles back at me and wraps his strong arms around me, pulling me in for a bear hug. "I'd do anything for you Myra. Remember that, okay?" I nod into his shoulder. We stay like that for a few minutes before pulling apart and getting ready to go to class.
Later that day...
Clark was nowhere to be found in Spanish class, but as if on queue, I run into him in the hallway at the end of the day. Unfortunately both of us have to catch our buses home so our conversation was short. Though during that short conversation, I found out that Clark was in MAPS testing. It's a dreaded computer test that has to be done bi-annually (twice a year) for English and Math. He to do it for Math while I've already done both. Both of us have some homework to complete, but promise to text for a bit when we're finished doing it.
That evening...
After trudging through four hours of boring history and geometry homework, I reward myself by texting both Becky and Clark for a little while before bed. Of course the conversations with each of them are separate. Of the two conversations, the one with Clark gets me the most excited because he asked me to hang out with him at the library this weekend, in which I immediately said yes to. This weekend is going to be amazing. I can't wait! <3 :)
