Chapter 41
Two days later... The weekend...
It's Saturday morning and I still have no plans for this weekend. I kind of want to hang out with Becky one on one and have a girl's day out. I pick up my phone and call her. "Hey Becky, are you free today?" "No sadly I'm not. I have a date with my boyfriend in a bit." "Oh. Nevermind. Have fun on your date." "Are you mad at me Myra?" "No of course not. I'll see you on Monday." "See you then Myra." "Bye Becky." "Bye." I hang up the phone and mumble pissy thought aloud. Becky just begged Derek and I not to exclude her and/or forget about her yet she's once again blowing me off for a date. I miss her. It honestly sucks. I really wish I could talk to her about it, Becky gets defensive at times, especially when it comes to her boyfriend. She might accuse me of being jealous and petty, which I never have or will ever will be. Jealous and petty aren't adjectives that are used to describe me.
Not wanting to mope around all day. I pick up my phone once more and call Derek. He answers immediately. "Hey Myra. What's up?" "I'm bored Derek. Want to hang out for the day?" He chuckles adorably into the phone. "I was just about to call you and ask you the same question. Want to spend the day at the park? "That'd be nice. Can you meet me there in an hour?" "Will do. See you there." I smile goofily. "See you there." I quickly run down the stairs. "Mom, can you drive me to the park in about twenty minutes? She nods and asks"What for?". "I'm meeting Derek. Him and I want to hang out there for the day." "Sounds like fun. Plus the weather's very nice today so you could use the fresh air." I give her a quick hug and thank her before going back upstairs to get ready. I grab what I need for the day, shove it all into a handbag, and use the bathroom before we leave.
Twenty minutes later...
My mom drives me to the park. I live in a big city named Landon in Massachusetts. In Landon, we have many parks, but Derek and I are meeting at Grove Park, which is about fifteen minutes away. As we get closer, I can feel my heart racing. Derek and I are in a very weird place right now. We're not dating, but it's like we're more than friends. Traffic slows us down by a few minutes but we still get there in good time. By coincidence, Derek comes walking my way right as I get out of the car. He politely regards my mom. When she drives off, he envelops me in a bear hug, which nearly causes me to crumble to the ground due to my excessive feels. Derek whispers "I've missed you" into my hair and I do the same in his, wholeheartedly meaning every word.
We pull apart after a couples of minutes and race each other to the swings. Derek and I plan to have one of our famous swing jumping contests. I usually win most of them, but Derek usually comes pretty close to beating me. "Derek", I say while laughing, "I don't understand why you challenge me to these contests all of the time when you know that defeat is the only fate that comes your way." Derek ruffles my hair quickly with one another before jumping off his swing. "I like a good challenge, especially against you. You're a fine opponent Myra Waters." I jump off my swing landing slightly further than him. I bow playfully. "You're a fine opponent as well Derek Fernando." He laughs and returns my playful bow. We continue for a few more rounds before stopping for a bathroom and food break. I get a cheeseburger, fires, and fruit punch while Derek gets two hot dogs with mustard, a bag of chips, and a coke. We relish the delicious taste of our food and the drinks quench our thirst. When we're done, we throw our trash away and go hang out by the brook, which is both scenic and more on the private side.
He sits down first on the grass and I sit down next to him. Derek playfully pouts and moves me right into his lap. I blush like crazy as I look at him. "Wow Myra, I never knew that I could make you blush so much." I swat him lightly on the arm. "It's not my fault that you're so damn attractive Derek." Derek gasps in fake shock. "Did Myra Waters just call me attractive?" He bends over and puts a hand on to his face. "I must be dreaming." I giggle in response and we sit in a peaceful silence for a couple of minutes before Derek breaks the ice. "Myra, I really wish we were dating." I look deep into his eyes and see pure love and desire in them. "I really wish we were dating too Derek." I put a hand on his cheek and rub it gently. "Can we?" Derek looks at me with surprise, though genuine surprise this time. "Are you sure you're ready? I don't want to rush you into a relationship with me if you aren't." He babbles on for a couple of minutes more before I press my lips to his. This kiss is passionate and full of emotion. When we stop for breath, Derek's face lights up. "I'll take that as a yes." I simply nod and go back to kissing him. I have a feeling that him and I will be doing a lot of this.
