Chapter 66

As the day goes on, I can more noticeably see the exhaustion creeping onto Derek. It's so sweet that he wants to spend so much time with me, but I feel as though I'm depriving him of some much needed sleep. "Derek, I know that you're tired. Please go to sleep." He tries to silently deny that he's tired, but a loud yawn confirms what I already knew. "Myra, you came all this way to see me, I don't want to feel like I've wasted your time." I grab his hands and squeeze them. "Derek, I'm just so happy to have been able to spend most of the day with you." I kiss him tenderly on the forehead. "I just want to see you get better and leave this god forsaken hospital."

Derek laughs weakly. "I love your description and word choice in that sentence." I smirk playfully. "It's a gift." Derek's hand sweeps my cheek, causing the heat throughout my body to rush straight to my cheeks. "I love you Myra and when I'm better, I'm going to take you out on the best date ever. I've had a lot of time to think about it. Needless to say, it'll be absolutely perfect." "I can't wait. Now please go to sleep." He yawns again and gives me one last kiss and dreamy smile as he drifts off to sleep. I sit by his bedside for awhile and watch him sleep until visiting hours are nearly over. I give his mom a hug before leaving the room and heading home.

When I get home, I make myself a couple of sandwiches for supper because both of my parents are too tired from work to do much of anything. The sandwiches are delicious. I eat them quickly and hide out in my room for the rest of the evening. I do various things like filming, writing, going online, etc. I do this until I'm too tired and nearly fall asleep with my head on my desk and my bright laptop screen flashing a series of videos that I was going to watch but am too tired to tonight. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
