Chapter 32
The next morning... the first day of school...
The day has fell upon me so quickly. I swear the night felt like it was only a few minutes long, though I did sleep for eight hours in addition to my nap in the car. So technically I slept for nine and a half hours, but who's counting. Oh, I am. Sometimes I forget how much of a nerd I really am. I scarf through breakfast quickly, shower, get dressed, and head to the car to my dad who's already honked the horn three times. Wow dad, it's not like I didn't hear you the first time... um yeah I did. My mom gives me a motherly kiss on the cheek and my dad drives me to school, which is about fifteen minutes away. I live on the other side of the city.
Fifteen minutes later...
Clark, Becky, Becky's boyfriend, and Derek await me by the front doors. I greet all of them with a hug except for Becky's boyfriend. It's not that I dislike Becky's boyfriend, I just don't know him that well. Instead, I give him a polite handshake so he doesn't feel left out. Together we all head inside and get out schedules, these schedules actually telling us what room and teachers we have for each subject. Both Clark and Derek are in most of my classes. The only class Derek isn't in is U.S. History I and the only classes Clark isn't in are Music and Creative Writing.
Lunch time...
We all have the same lunch so we pick out a table to sit at with all of our food and guess who approaches our table. You guessed it, Brittany bitch and her minions. I never told Clark about them because he has enough troubles at home and in general. In other words, I didn't want to burden him further. I can see him growing cold fast so I put a hand on his back. He relaxes at my gentle touch. Brittany sneers at us. "What the hell do you want?", I say with gritted teeth. Brittany smirks at me. "Well I was just trying to go about my day until you and your band of mutts ruined it with your presence." I get up and slap Brittany across the face, earning gasps of shock from everyone. Brittany puts a hand to her cheek and whimpers. "Go to hell Myra." I simply smirk at her like she did to me before she lost her confidence. "Why would I go to tell when I'm already here. You're so fucking dumb." As expected, I get no response from Brittany and she storms off with her minions following close behind her.
After they're gone, everyone cheers for me at my table and eventually most of the people in the cafeteria do as well. Their applause gives me a confidence boost like no other. As crazy as it may sound, I wouldn't mind doing it again. Brittany made my year hell last year but she has another thing coming this year. I refuse to take her shit anymore. Every time she gives me attitude, I'll give it back. If she tries to beat me up, I'll do the same to her. No one can fault me for applying self defense tactics in order to ensure my safety.
After school...
Clark and I decide to hang out in the library like we often did last year. We reflect on our first day of sophomore year with excitement. I can tell Clark's still in shock about me slapping Brittany at lunch. Though he rewarded me with a passionate kiss while praising me for my balls. With that being said, today was a pretty damn good first day of school, definitely better than my first day of school last year.
