Chapter 39
The next day...
Becky and Derek guide me through crowded hallways to help me get to my locker and simply the day itself. Once again due to unfortunate luck, we run into Clark, though this time my eyes meet his. I immediately regret it because I can feel all of my emotions coming to the surface at once. Tears tease my eyes but I refuse to showcase my pain in front of everyone. My pain is no something I want to be displayed publicly. I try to get myself to look away from him but fail. Derek then does something insane... he pulls me towards him and kisses me... on the lips. I end up kissing him back against my better judgment. We do this for about a minute before we pull apart. I stare up at him in shock, Derek stares at me with lust, Becky stares at us fondly, and Clark stares at us with a very dark expression. What a moment this is. This moment is one that will be implemented in my mind for awhile.
Derek is the first one to break the silence. "W-Well that was something." I laugh nervously. "That it was." Him and I stare at each other for a couple of minutes before we force ourselves to snap back to reality. As we head to class, a roar of social activity spreads like wildfire. Derek and I's unplanned kiss sparked the number one conversation topic of today.
After school...
Derek and I linger in the hallway for a few minutes to talk about our kiss from this morning. I lean against my locker for support. Derek stands just inches from me as he begins to give an explanation. "Myra, first let me apologize for kissing you like that. I crossed like ten different lines by doing so. Second, I wanted to piss Clark off a bit further out of jealousy." I put a hand up to silence him. "What do you mean by that second part?" Sweat begins to pour from all parts of his body. His face and voice suddenly become serious. "Myra, I like you." My facial expression is that of a purely stunned individual. "You do?" He nods hesitantly. "I-I don't know what to say Derek." Derek puts a hand to my cheek and caresses it gently. "Say you like me too." I know that our kiss meant something to you. If it didn't, you wouldn't have kissed me back, let alone do so for as long as you did." I bite my lip and blush profusely. "You caught me. I recently started to like you too."
Derek flashes me a radiant smile. "So where do we go from here?" I shrug my shoulders like he did to me yesterday. "Where do you want to go from here?" "How about we take a little more time to figure out our feelings before we jump into anything." I nod in agreement. "That sounds good to me." With all of that being said, Derek and I go our separate ways for the night. I texted my mom earlier to ask if she could pick me up today and she agreed, though I have to take the bus home tomorrow. I agreed because it's only fair. When I get home, I distractedly work on some homework, eat supper, go online for a bit, and have a chalk filled night of interesting dreams, most of them involving Derek and I as well as we have potential to be.
