Chapter 65
Three days later...
I got home yesterday and I'm now on my way to visit Derek in the hospital. I brought my parents up to speed on his condition last night. They were very understanding and were more than happy to bring me to the hospital and pick me up tonight. I've already double checked with his mom to make sure that it's okay to spend the day there and she said yes. Derek texted me his room number. He's in room 240, which is on the second floor. I take the stairs up to get a little workout. I'm not obese but I could stand to lose a few pounds. I'm a size large in most of what I wear. On a good day I can slip into something that's a medium, but that's very seldom.
When I get to Derek's room, I see that he's lying in bed talking to his mom and doctor. I linger in the doorway for a moment before they spot me. Derek motions for me to come in and I do. His mom pulls me in for a short hug while his doctor gives me a polite nod which I return back to be polite. "Myra, it's so good to see you. I'm going to run some errands so I can give you two some space to visit with one another. I'll be back in about three or four hours. You're welcome to stay beyond that if you choose to Myra." I give her a grateful smile. "Thank you." "You're welcome. See you both later." She gives Derek a motherly kiss on the cheek and leaves the room. Derek's doctor mumbles something to himself before leaving the room as well, giving Derek and I some much need alone time.
I bury my face in the crook of his neck. "I'm so happy you're alive. You were right, things could have been much worse. You could have been paralyzed or worse... dead." Derek buries his face in my chest. "I'm sorry baby. I'm sorry for scaring you. I'll make sure that it never happens again. I hate seeing you shed tears because of me. I'm not worth your tears." I gasp. "You are absolutely worth my tears and concern Derek, but most importantly, you're worthy of my love. Derek I love you. You make me so happy." Derek lifts his face off of my chest and looks me in the eyes. "I do?" I smile at him sincerely. "You do. Do I make you happy?" Derek returns my smile with an even more radiant one. "You make me so happy. You give my life meaning. By the way, I love you too."
I lean my head on his shoulder. "Derek, are you okay though? Emotionally I mean." His eyes convey an emotion that I can't quite grasp. "I'm fine." I raise an eyebrow at him. "Are you sure?" Derek clasps his hands over mine gently. "I'm sure. I may be an idiot sometimes, but I'm not a liar. If I was upset, I would be sure to tell you that I am as well as why I am. Now please relax baby. We get to spend the whole day together. What's better than that?" The frown on my face tugs into a smile. "Nothing's better than that."
