Chapter 21

A few days later... at the mall with Derek...

Derek and I are spending the day at the mall. He's interested in buying some new video games while I want to buy some new clothes and books. Though the both of us have a mutual agreement to go to the arcade later. Right now, we're taking a break from the little shopping we've done so far to grab some pizza and soda at the food court. Since I took Derek to Golden Corral the other day, he offered to pay for the food and drinks. I grab a table and awkwardly wait for him to come back with it all in hand. He does gratefully a few minutes later. "Derek, you didn't have to do that. Thank you though." He makes a "psh" sound. "It's no problem. It's the least I can do to repay for the ride to and from the buffet."

An awkward silences washes over us for a couple of minutes before I break the silence. "I'm really glad you're doing better Derek." Derek gives me a smile conveying an array of emotions. "Me too Myra. If anything, I've learned an important lesson from my recent experience." I raise an eyebrow at him. "And what exactly did you learn?" He stifles a small laugh. "I learned to never again fall of a girl who's taken and/or interested in someone else. It just leads to unnecessary complications." I nod in agreement. We then scarf the pizza down quickly and do some more shopping and then hit up the arcade.

At the arcade...

Derek challenges me to a basketball match in which I gladly accept his offer. I happen to be a pro at basketball. It's cute that he's trying to act all tough, but he's about to have his ass handed to him. As we play several matches, I have to give Derek credit. He's putting up a pretty good fight, though not good enough because I still manage to cream him. I don't mean to sound cocky myself, but I'm not good at many things so when I am great at something, I like to bask in the glory of winning. Derek's a good sport so I treat him to some ice cream. After all, mall pizza and soda isn't cheap, yet he still bought it for the both of us out of the kindness of his heart.

That evening...

Derek's mom drives us home, dropping me off first. Derek walks me to the door, greets my parents, hugs me goodbye, and goes back to the car. His mom waves at me and I wave back as I head inside. I then dash up to my room, unload what I bought, put it all away, and go online for the evening.
