Chapter 80
The next day...
Derek and I decided to meet up on a whim to talk about the events of yesterday. While things did get better later on yesterday, I'm still upset. Derek and I are going to the park for a couple of hours. We'd normally spend a lot longer with each other but unfortunately we both have places to be later, me to family movie night and him to a doctor's appointment. With shaky hands, I go over to the bench where Derek is waiting for me. Just to clarify, I didn't sleep at all last night due to nightmares, anxiety, and the heat.
Derek frowns when he notices that I'm nervous. "Myra, I love you, but you don't look so good." I laugh tiredly. "So I've been told. I didn't get any sleep last night. For the record, you look you've seen better days yourself Derek." He gives me a playful eye roll to lighten the mood. "So I've been told. What's on your mind love?" I sigh. "The events of yesterday and Becky. I'm worried that she's starting to lose hope and you know what happens when a person states to lose hope." Derek nods in agreement. "That same thought has been teasing the depths of my mind too. Becky's been so strong for so long. It'd be a shame for her to lose hope now."
Tears cloud my vision. "Derek, what happens if we lose her?" Derek looks at me sadly. "Truth be told, I don't know. I don't think that we should worry about it so much. It's not good for us to do so. I know that it's easier said than done, but we have to try. We should only worry if we have to. Yesterday she was very talkative and looked good." I sniffle. "Yeah you're right. You know Derek, you help me come back to Earth just as much as I help you do the same." Derek smiles at me. "I'm glad I can be of service my lady."
I climb into Derek's lap and wrap my arms around his neck. I stare into his gorgeous chocolate colored eyes for a couple of minutes before crashing my lips against his. "I love you Derek." "I love you too Myra." We pull apart from our kiss just as an idea pops into my head. "Say Derek, it's been awhile since we've had a swing jumping contest." I smirk at him confidently. "I bet I can still beat you." Derek grins back at me mischievously. "A bet you say?" If it's a bet, what's the wager?" I take a moment to think about what the wager could be. "How about the loser buys the both of us ice cream from the ice cream truck?" Derek shakes my hand. "It's a deal."
Derek and I run to the swings. We pump on them super fast and both end up pretty high before jumping off, him going first followed by me. I land a lot farther! A grin spreads across my face and I bow victoriously. "Yay, I'm a winner." Derek wraps his arms around me from behind. "Congratulations baby girl, you never cease to amaze me. You can have any ice cream you want." I loop my hand in his and we walk over to the ice cream truck. He buys me birthday cake flavored Dip and Dots ice cream and him an ice cream sandwich. We sit on a bench and eat our ice cream in blissful silence. We then talk a little bit more (along with some heated kissing) before we have to part ways again, which is always a difficult thing for us to do.
That evening...
My parents and I are watching Melissa McCarthy's new movie Identity Theft. Jason Bateman is in it too. It's really funny. One of my favorite parts is when the police are trying to arrest her, but she's too busy trying to outrun a bee to comply with their orders. I won't spoil it any further. Get off your butt and go see it. It's definitely worth a trip to the movies to go see. Plus, I have a wonderful taste in movies. I wouldn't recommend a bad movie to anyone. Former Girl Scout's honor.
