Chapter 20

The next day... the first day of summer vacation...

I got to be lazy and sleep in until noon today which was totally awesome. Waking up at noon is much better than having to wake up at six in the morning, trust me on that. Anyways, to kick off my first day of summer vacation, I'm starting on my summer reading. Reading is the fun, it's just the reports/projects that bore me to death. Though despite my constant whining, I manage to read all three required books and complete all of the reports/projects within the first month of summer vacation. I like getting everything done early so I can breathe for the remaining half of summer vacation.

Now let me break down my summer reading completion process for you guys. I typically take five days to read each book and then complete the project/report two days later. I like to take a day off in between to regroup myself and/or reward myself by doing something really fun such as going to the water park or the mall with friends like Becky and Derek. Speaking of Derek, I'm seeing him in a few days to do exactly that, which is go to the mall. We invited Becky, but unfortunately she's leaving that day to go to Cape Cod for a short vacation trip. To make up for it, the three of us are going out for dinner tonight. We chose our guilty pleasure buffet, which is Golden Corral. The food selection there blows my mind, the food gives us foodgasms, and it's over an hour away, which gives us quite a bit of time to talk both ways. I'm so ready.

Late afternoon...

My dad drives us all to Golden Corral. We offered for my mom to come, but she said she was too tired and wanted to get some house work done anyway. I felt bad so I told her my dad and I will bring her back some hard shell tacos from Taco Bell so she has something to look forward to later. The whole car ride to the buffet is lively and full of conversation, making my worries about Derek diminish a bit. He's more talkative now than he has been in a couple of months. I'm glad he's starting to feel better. As for his feelings for the mystery girl, he hasn't mentioned her much. That's definitely progress in my book.

At the buffet...

My dad tells us he'll be sleeping in the car while we eat. Me being used to his sleeping in the car, I lead the way into Golden Corral with my money in tow. I pay for myself first and wait for Becky and Derek to do the same. When they do, we rush around like maniacs and pile everything on our plates. When we get to our table, we dig in like the pigs we are when it comes to food. We eat and eat until we can't anymore. Though surprisingly, we manage to have room for dessert, which consists of ice cream, cotton candy, and chocolate covered strawberries. What a great reward for simply reading a summer reading book.
