Chapter 44
A few weeks later... semiformal...
Derek asked me out to the semiformal a few weeks ago and I said yes. We can't go to prom until next year because our school's prom is only geared towards juniors and seniors. Oh well, there's always next year I guess. Though many say that the semiformal dance is better than prom. Everyone dresses up and dances, but it's a lot more lowkey than prom. Less expectations and what not. Derek's mom is coming by in a bit to to speak with my mom and take some pictures of us together. Mothers tend to make such a huge fuss over school dances. It's kind of funny actually, you might think that they're the ones attending the dance rather than us.
Half an hour later...
Derek and his mom pull into the driveway and knock on the door. I can feel my heart racing as I add the finishing touches to my outfit and dash downstairs. Derek and I instantly make eye contact. I then look him over and he does the same to me. "Derek, you look incredible." An adorable blush creeps onto his face. "Thank you Myra. You look so beautiful." The same blush creeps onto my face. Our parents gush over us a few minutes, take some pictures, and then Derek's mom drives us to the dance. Becky and her boyfriend approach us and the four of us snag a table for the evening. Since we're all hungry, we decide to eat first before we dance. The food includes pizza, steak, mashed potatoes, and chicken. It's a great assortment of food. After we eat, we all go out to the dance floor and dance the night away. The music selection is lit by the way. Yes I said lit, come at me. I'm kidding, I don't want to fight with anyone tonight. I actually look good for once and I don't want my appearance to be ruined.
Most of the songs are fast paced until a slow one finally comes on, which is Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran. It's such a good song to dance to and quite romantic. It hits me in the feels every time I listen to it. Derek grabs my waist and steadily pulls me around the ballroom. His moves are so good that I feel like we're reacting the music video. Even though I'm not the best dancer, I'm able to keep up with Derek just fine. Derek murmurs sweet nothings in my ear, making me absolutely weak in the knees. When the song comes to an end, Derek gently tips me and pulls me in for a short kiss, though if we were alone, it'd be a lot longer than a few seconds. The rest of the night is a fairytale come to life. As silly as I'm going to sound, I feel like a princess right now. I can only imagine how prom will be.
