Your POV

Today, Niall and I were going on the Ellen show to speak out about drowning. We recently lost our 12 year old daughter, Isabelle, in a drowning accident.

"Ethan, Aaliyah, you two are going to draw with grandma for a while because me and your dad have an interview" I told my 6 year old son and 1 year old daughter as I put them in the car.
Ethan nodded and Aaliyah made a baby noise.

"Thanks for looking after them Maura" I said as we dropped the kids off at Niall's mums. "Thanks mum" Niall said hugging her.
"I'd have them any time, and it's really important that you tell parents to know about the dangers of water" She said hugging us.

"So what exactly happened to your daughter?" Ellen asked with sympathy in her voice.
"Our 12 year old daughter, Isabelle, wanted to go out to the swimming baths with some of her friends, so we let her. She was a great swimmer, we taught her how to swim as soon as she could walk" I said.
"We let her go , told her to be safe. She went with two of her friends who she had known since she started school.
At around 8pm that night, she still wasn't home and we were worried so we rang her and texted her but got no answer. Around half an hour later , the police showed up. They explained to us what happened to Isabelle" Niall continued.

"So what was it that actually happened?" Ellen asked.
"The police tried to explain it as best as they could , they told us that she had been swimming and went to swim under the water. The pool was quite full that day because it was in the middle of summer and when she needed air, there was no way of coming up because there were too many people. The only way of coming up for air would've been to swim about 10 metres to the other side of the pool . So she tried to and obviously ran out of breath and ended up becoming unconscious . But by the time someone realised , it was too late" Niall explained and I wiped a tear from my eye.
Ellen placed a box of tissues on the table and I gave her a smile.

"Did this happen in a public swimming pool?" Ellen asked. We nodded.
"Yes, and the swimming pool it happened at usually has around 5 or 6 lifeguards and on this day when there was many people there was only two lifeguards who were both trainees." I said.

"Have you already had the funeral?" She asked.
We both nodded.
"Yeah, it was by far the worst day of my life" Niall said taking a tissue to wipe his tear filled eyes.

"What was it like?" Ellen asked.
"She had a turquoise coffin with an Irish flag painted in the centre, me, my brother Greg, my dad, Liam, Louis and Harry carried it into the church.
We had it in a white cart pulled by horses instead of a hurst." Niall explained.
"In the church, me, Niall, Maura and Bobby all did a speech . Inside the coffin with her, Niall put her white teddy bear which he got her when she was born, it was always at the end of her bed, she'd kept in tack and we put in some photos of me, her and Niall. When it was time for the burial though
We put some fake roses on top of her coffin" I explained wiping another tear.

"It must be horrible to lose a child" Ellen stated.
"It is, I just, I always thought I'd have a perfect life with my kids. I thought I would get to see each one of them grow up to be a beautiful woman or a gentleman , to walk my daughters down the aisle on their wedding day, to be there for them through heartbreak or through their first relationship and to be Their shoulder to cry on, But now, I'll never be able to do that with Isabelle, I've helped her through some tough times but I'll never watch her get married or help her through heartbreak and that honestly saddens me so much. I'll never get to see her grow up into a woman and see her be happy and have her own family" Niall said , a tear escaping his eye.
