Elsa snuck up to Hans door and knocked quietly. She had finished her bath and dressed herself in a purple, silk nightgown that fell down to her knees and her hair was let down to her back. She knocked quietly again and he answered a moment later. He was dressed in flannel pajamas bottoms and was shirtless, making Elsa blush. When would I ever get used to him shirtless? Elsa wondered and smiled sheepishly at him.
"Good evening, Queen Elsa." He said and gestured for her to enter his bed chambers.
"Why the formal greeting?" Elsa smirked and walked over to his bed and sat on the edge.
"I don't know." He smiled and walked back over to his desk and sat down. "I'm writing a letter to my mother but I might just toss it because she'll be here in a few days." He shrugged and looked down at his piece of paper laying on the desk.
"What's the letter about?"
"My return to the Southern Isles, which I won't be letting happen."
"I don't want you to leave." Elsa pouted and adjusted herself in Hans' bed and pulled the red covers over her body.
"I liked kissing you earlier but I'm sorry if I took it too far." He muttered.
"You didn't." Elsa smiled and blushed. Hans smiled at her and climbed into bed, he wrapped his arms around her and brought her against his bare chest. "I know that you don't know how you feel but I love you. I just want you to know that I do love you, no matter how you feel about me."
"I love you too." Elsa whispered after a while and stayed snuggled against his chest.
"What?" Hans asked and sat Elsa up, smiling stupidly at her. "You love me? You mean it though, right? You aren't just saying it?"
"No." Elsa giggled nervously and watched as his eyes lit up. "I love you, Hans. I really do mean it."
"I love hearing you say that you love me." He said and brought her into a passionate kiss. He pulled away from her and stared into her eyes, his hands resting on her shoulders. "When did you realize you loved me?"
"I think I always did and I didn't know how to label the feelings. I knew they were strong but earlier they just, I don't know, clicked." She shrugged and smiled sheepishly. "I realized that I love you and I can't ever imagine living a day without you."
"Elsa," Hans whispered and held her hands tightly. "Will you marry me?" He asked and watched as her eyes widened and she gasped. "I know that I don't have a ring and it's all been so hectic around here but we've stuck through it all and I want you as my wife."
"What about me being queen? That doesn't matter to you?"
"I told you before that I wouldn't care if you were a queen or dirt poor. It's what's inside of here that matters to me." He smiled and pointed a finger to her heart. "Will you marry me, Elsa?" He asked, watching as her eyes began to soften and they became shimmery like she was close to tears. "And be mine forever?"
"Yes." She whispered and lunged herself at him, bringing him into a tight hug. She pulled away grinning and tears started to fall down her freckled cheeks.
"Why are you crying?" Hans asked, cocking his head to the side.
"They're happy tears." She said and squeezed his hands lightly. "It really doesn't matter that we don't have an engagement ring though." She said and looked up into his charming green eyes. "You're going to be my husband. That's a strange thought." She smiled and kissed his cheek lightly.
"I know that we don't know everything about each other but as time passes I'm sure we'll know each other well enough. Kristoff and Anna have been married for years and I'm sure they don't know everything about each other."
"Probably not... But I'll have to tell the council of our engagement. They'll be at the welcoming ball so I'll discuss setting up a meeting with them the following morning."
"What do you think they'll say?"
"They won't care who I'm engaged to. They only care about themselves and having a secure kingdom under their greedy fingers." She said. "Do you remember the Duke of Weaslton?"
"Unfortunately." He said and rolled his eyes. "That man pisses me off."
"The men of Arendelle's council are much like him. Older, grumpy, and only worrying about getting their claws under a kingdom."
"Then why are they the council? Don't you choose them?"
"No," Elsa shook her head. "They're chosen from family lines, mostly." She shrugged. "I can't wait to tell Anna." Elsa smiled and kissed Hans quickly. "We'll have to talk about wedding arrangements because the council will be pushing for a quick, early marriage." She said and began to sort through different things in her head. "What will we do about children? I'm sure they'll want an heir if we pass away."
"Elsa, sweetheart, we don't need to think about all of this just yet. We just got engaged and no one knows yet so no one is pressing for our wedding or children." He said and smiled. "I'm sure the council will have enough to say about it when the time comes. Okay?" He asked and she nodded slightly. "I love you." He said and kissed her forehead softly.
"I love you too." She smiled and really looked at her fiancé. He was handsome, he always was. He had auburn hair, light freckles, beautiful green eyes and his physique was tall and muscular. But behind all of his physical appearance was a soft man with a good heart and a bad past. Although he was bullied and tortured by his older brothers and hardly ever noticed by his parents, Elsa was the only one to see the true him. He no longer was the man trying to please anyone, especially his parents, eventually they'd have to come around to him. He no longer was taking anything from his older brothers, especially Alan. He was also no longer power hungry or wanting to be the king of any kingdom or province. He only wanted to spend as much time as he could with his beautiful fiancé and hope that one day they would have a family and grow old together but never losing their love for one another.
