The next morning Elsa and Hans sat quietly in the dining room, they hadn't spoken a word to each other and mostly it was because of Elsa. She wasn't in the mood to talk and only felt depressed. She felt like she was abandoning Anna and her family, Anna wouldn't even know where Elsa was or when she would be back. She stared down at her food, playing with it every now and then to seem like she'd eat but she wasn't hungry. She barely ate dinner last night.
Elsa sighed and pushed back her chair, standing to her feet and looked over to Hans. "I'm not hungry," She said and he nodded simply. He knew she was upset but nothing could help her. He was only doing this to protect her. "I just want to be alone." She snapped.
"Please don't get angry with me. I'm doing this for your safety," He sighed. "And for the baby." He added and her mood softened but not enough to be happy.
"I just..." She trailed off, not sure what else she could say. Hans already knew how she felt about the situation but she also understood she needed to be safe. "I'll go pack for the trip... That's a happier way to think about it." Elsa shrugged and gave Hans a small smile.
"You shouldn't have to pack anything. I only say that because the plan should work tonight and be over with tonight." He said and stood from the table, walking over to her and held both of her hands in his. "I love you." He said and they touched foreheads, smiling down into her eyes and she smiled back at him.
"I love you, too." She said and heard footsteps coming down the hallway and into the dining room.
"Good morning." Alan said. Hans and Elsa looked over to him then separated, standing side by side but Elsa would've rather been alone than with Hans and Alan.
"Morning." Hans said and waved to him, looking down at Elsa expecting her to wave or say hello.
"I think I'm going to go up to our bedroom. You boys can discuss the matter more in depth." Elsa said and Hans gave her a confused look, wondering why she was being different, more stiff, today. She kissed Hans on the cheek quickly then went off to their bedroom to read more of her mother's journal.
"She's acting different today." Alan said and took a sip of his orange juice.
"I was just thinking that." Hans said and sat back down at his seat. Alan grabbed a plate full of fried potatoes, a little bit of eggs and his orange juice to sit across from Hans. "She's upset because she feels guilty for leaving Anna without saying anything." He said and swallowed a bite of his scrambled eggs, taking a small drink of his tea. "Anna isn't even here so she won't know."
"I understand both sides. You want her safe and she doesn't want to go without saying anything." Alan said and Hans sighed, nodding and felt guilty for making Elsa feel this way.
"What do you think is going to happen with father?" Hans asked, picking at his food with his fork.
"We can't expect anything. Every day is different with him because of his mental state." Alan stated and thought it could go in many different directions but wasn't sure how it could end. Hans or Alan could get hurt or his father could get hurt, the only way those things could happen is if Henry provoked them. "I'm a bit nervous. I don't want either one of us to get hurt. Especially you since you have a child coming." Alan said and Hans smiled a little. "What's that for?" Alan asked and jabbed his fork towards Hans, directing it at his smile.
"You've changed. You're not selfish, you're putting my life above yours."
"I was never selfish. I was conceited, yes, but never selfish. I saved your wife in Trasyn from a street man trying to take her. I could've had him pay me to keep quiet while he took her, but I saved her. Also-"
"Yes, you're still conceited. You're boasting about how unselfish you are." Hans said and smirked.
"I'm only proud of myself, as I should be. I'm happy with who I am." He said and shrugged lightly. "As I was saying, I put your relationship with Elsa over what I wanted. I could've... Ah, nevermind. It doesn't matter anyways." Alan said and shoved potatoes into his mouth to keep from talking.
"So, after dinner we're having Elsa leave unnoticed. Then we confront him but not to where it provokes him to become angry." Hans said and grabbed his glass of juic, drinking it quickly to say something. "Let's stop talking about it for now."
"On a happier note, I'm glad it's snowing. The only downside is that the roads are way too icy for carriages so there's no opportunity to get out of the castle." Alan said and thought up something. "Couldn't Elsa help with the roads? With the ice, I mean." He asked but Hans shook his head.
"No, she's been really weak and not able to use much of her magic. That's another reason I'm worried that she won't be safe tonight because she can't use her magic to fight back like she normally could." Hans said and sighed quietly. I need to stop thinking this way, I'll only rattle my brain over nothing. She'll be safe, Hans thought. "So," Hans said, mentally and verbally changing the subject. "Any ladies in your life?"
"No," Alan shrugged then laughed a little. "I'll probably never marry. Especially at my age, it's a little later for me now." Alan shrugged. "I'm not in any rush for love either. It'll come to me when it's time."
"You're only twenty-seven years old, Alan. I do like your mentality though. Elsa and I... It wasn't planned but I wanted it to happen." Hans said and remembered when he was on the boat and Elsa came out. He was expecting her to be angry but she must've been past anger and just wanted his reasoning on being there.
"She's a great woman. I hope one day I can have a woman like that by my side." Alan smiled sincerely and meant what he said. Elsa was perfect in his eyes and perfect for Hans. He could only hope there was another like her.
