Dedicated Chapter Song: Stand By You - Rachel Platten
Even if we're breaking down, we can find a way to break through
Even if we can't find heaven, I'll walk through hell with you
Love, you're not alone, 'cause I'm gonna stand by you"So... " Hanji stared at her friend. "You're saying Anna and you share some special love connection-"
"It's not love." Levi insisted.
"Whatever you say, Captain. I'm just going off of what you're telling me. Whenever you fall asleep, you apparently enter Anna's subconscious. That's really interesting." she smiled sweetly. "You two are so True Loves!"
"Tch! That shit doesn't exist, four eyes." Levi grabbed a book from nearby and sat up on the medical bed besides Anna. "Whatcha doing now?" Hanji questioned. "Keep talking," he glanced over at her. "I need to bore myself back to sleep."
Hanji grinned. "So, I've been looking into the types of poisons Anna could have ingested. So far I've narrowed it down to Strychnine, Curare, or maybe even Arsenic. I'm not positive yet but they all are used in medicinal treatments in highly diluted forms... "
"The first trial is... killing Boss's goons and... reliving the night I got this?" Anna motioned to her golden eye. Ruby nodded. "Precisely." she motioned to the wooden door in the sewers. "After you." Anna turned as she heard footsteps. "Fucking filthy." Levi groaned as he trudged though the graywater.
Anna arched an eyebrow, her daggers gripped tightly in her palms. "You're back already?" she questioned. Levi looked at her stoically. "Hanji's science talk bored me to sleep." Anna snickered. "Right... " her words trailed off as she turned back to the door. "Levi... before I go in there... please don't think of me differently after all of this." she begged.
Levi adjusted his brown vest. "Why would I think of you any differently?" he asked. She sighed deeply. "We're going back through my memories. I have to conquer them. This is where it starts... " she turned to the door. Raising her hand, she knocked hard on the door for once. "Ego autem serve adsum." she spoke.
"State your name and business." Anna gulped nervously. "Annalise Kasahara." she raised her head, hearing Levi shift behind her. "Boss sent for me."
When the door opened, Anna slammed her right handed dagger through the jugular of the burly man on her left. Levi covered her by slicing the other man's hand off as she spun around to face him. The body of the first man fell to the ground. "Hello, Marcus. Remember me?" her eyes flashed as the man whimpered. "What do you want? Money? Food? I'll give you anything you want. I swear!" he stated.
"Oh, and you will." she didn't blink as she cleanly swiped her blade across his neck, the blood oozing out as he wriggled and gasped for his last breathe of air. The two bodies dissipated into smoke. Anna coughed. "Fuck... " she breathed, then looked down the narrow hall. "Never thought I'd see these goddamn walls again." she looked back at Ruby and Cullen, who only nodded reassuringly at her.
"This man," Levi spoke as they descended down the hallway. "I take it he's the one who poisoned you?" he inquired. Anna nodded. "He knows I betrayed him. He knows I'm never coming back. Boss is aware of what kind of convincing liar I am and he knows I deceived him back in the forest."
"So there was someone else with us?" Levi tightened the grip on his knife. "Yes." Anna said flatly, approaching the door to Boss's office. She kicked it open without a second thought. Boss's red eyes glowed hellishly at her. "I've been awaiting you, Anna." he tauntingly waved the needle in his hand.
Levi glared at him. "So this is who you deceived me for." Boss grinned, gnashing his mouth of fangs. "You think I'm afraid of you?" Anna scoffed. "I've grown tired of you." she growled. "Oh, Annalise. Will you never learn? You're just as pathetic as your mother." he shook his head. Anna narrowed her eyes. "Leave my mother out of this," she raised her arm and lunged at him, but he was too fast, sliding out of the way and grabbing her by her arm.
"You'll never learn." he whispered, pale blond hair falling into his red eyes as he stabbed the syringe into her neck. Anna screamed as her gold eye glowed in the dim light of the room. Levi came up behind Boss, slashing at him from his head to his arse. Boss, like his minions, dissipated in black smoke. "Anna... " Levi reached for her, but she held her hand up to stop him. "It had to happen... " she groaned, rubbing her neck.
"Kasahara, huh?" he inquired. Anna gulped and looked up at him. "Yeah." she got to her feet again. "Annalise Kasahara. That's me. Daughter of the richest farmers in the South." she lowered her head again. "At least I was." Cullen smiled at her. "Let's go, A. We haven't a moment to waste."
Anna rushed out and ran back down the hall, slashing her dagger as reinforcement goons were sent to kill her. "Fuck you, fuck you, and guess what," she laughed as she slammed her dagger into the third goon's cranium. "Fuck you, too." she grinned in satisfaction.
"Someone's angry," Levi joked. Anna smiled at him. "I just really want to get back to reality." she admitted. "I have to get back to the Survey Corps. To Hanji. To you... " she trailed off. "We need to keep moving."
"Right... " Levi mumbled, his steel grey eyes softening as he watched her. He'd never truly seen her fight before. Not in the field at least. She was impressive. She was, in a sense, perfect. "Next trial?" Anna demanded. Ruby giggled. "Your first failed mission."
