Dedicated Chapter Song: When We Were Young - Adele

Everybody loves the things you do, from the way you talk to the way you move. Everybody here is watching you 'cause you feel like home. You're like a dream come true. But if by chance you're here alone, can I have this moment before I go?

"Having fun?" Levi padded his way over to Anna, who had denied over twenty men who begged to dance with her

"Having fun?" Levi padded his way over to Anna, who had denied over twenty men who begged to dance with her. "No, thanks, I'm not in the mood to- oh! Captain!" she let out a breathe of relief. "I've been denying so many people tonight that's my automatic reaction to anyone speaking to me." she sipped at her wine. "Save me a dance?" he asked. "Not on your life." she teased. Levi plucked the wine glass from her grasp, moving closer to her. "What about yours?"

"That is called necrophilia and I'm pretty sure that's illegal." Anna joked. Levi sucked his teeth. "Always the smart mouth, aren't you?" Anna flirtaiously trailed her finger along his jawline. "And you love it. Don't act like you don't." she winked. Levi grabbed her hand, leading her to the dance floor. "Levi- ugh! I don't know how to dance!" she hissed. "It's fairly simple. All you have to do," he spun her to face him. "Is have the right partner."

Anna's eyes frantically looked around as she saw many people watching them. "Ignore them." Levi reminded her. "Just have fun." Anna shook her head as the music slowed. "I don't think I can do this." she tensed up. Levi leaned in closer. "Trust me." he said, and her eyes returned to his. She nodded just barely and stepped back as he stepped forward, the two of them moving along to the music. "This is insane..." she mumbled. "My life has turned upside down because of you." she smiled. "Is that a bad thing?" Levi asked. "No." she replied. "It's a great thing. My life is better with you in it."

"The same goes for me." he replied, dipping her down. She gasped, grabbing onto him tighter. "It's okay. I won't drop you." he lifted her back up. She let her hands relax, moving around the dance floor with him, their eyes never looking elsewhere but at each other. Anna realized she'd never want to be anywhere else more than in his arms. There were a few times she'd stepped on his toes that night, but she apologized each and every time, always flustered and nervous. Everywhere she looked, people were staring back, but she didn't care after a while. She eventually got the hang of waltzing and did so vigourously with pride, smiling wide as her and Levi danced, proud to be his date for the night. 'That's right,' she thought to herself. 'I've got the hottest guy in the Corps and he has me. Look at me now!

"You seem happy." Levi noted. "I am!" she giggled as he twirled her around. "This is...the best night of my entire life." she tilted her head up to look at the lights above them. "I don't think I've ever been this happy before..." her eyes lowered to look back down at him, seeing he was actually smiling. In public. "Levi! You're smiling!" she exclaimed. "Yeah. I am." he replied simply. "I got you to smiiiile." she sing-songed. Levi playfully rolled his eyes. "Shut up...shitty brat..." he mumbled the last part. Anna leaned in and pecked his cheek. "Just live for tonight." she whispered in his ear. "We'll worry about everything else tomorrow." she slipped away from his arms. "My feet hurt. I'm gonna go sit down for a while. These damn heels are killing my toes." she groaned and took them off, walking back over to the table with Erwin. "So...how much longer do you intend on keeping it a secret?" Erwin smirked.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Anna stated, fixing her braid a bit. "You and Levi. It's obvious you two have something going on between you." Anna smiled proudly. "So what if it is?" she asked, nonchalantly. "Doesn't mean we want to share it." Erwin leaned back in his seat. "You care for him a lot, don't you?" Anna glanced down at her hands. "I suppose so." she replied. "Our lives correspond in ways that should be more than coincidence. It's no accident I was caught that day. In fact...something in me didn't want me to go back in the first place. I would have just taken the items I looted and sold them, cut my hair and maybe lived in Dauper or someplace they wouldn't find me."

"You don't have to worry about that now." Erwin said. "No, but there are other things to worry about." her eyes raised as she saw several MPs slowly forming a loose circle around the room, their eyes all on her. She smiled sadly, fiddling with her nails. "You can't change from your past. You can't even run from it. The horrible things you've done," her eyes looked up as the MPs moved closer and closer, closing in on her. "You can only hope you can make up for the terrible things you've done." her eyes locked on Levi as he began walking towards her, but an MP stood in the way. "Annalise Kasahara?" she raised her head proudly. "Yes?"

Two other MPs grabbed her by the arms, dragging her to her feet. The first MP held out a warrant to Erwin. "You're under arrest for manslaughter by order of the King." Anna didn't try to struggle, even though Levi shoved several guys aside to reach her. "The hell is going on here?!" he demanded. They yanked Anna away from him. "Your little girlfriend is under arrest." sneered the MP guard. "Or were you not aware of the 300 innocent people she killed in the past 9 months?" he began to read off a list. "Thomas Massey, Danielle Duclos, Gabriele Neudorf, Catherine Rogers, Angela Conner, Cedric Estrada, Samantha Hoffman, Marian Pratt, Orville Wagner, Phylis Kingsley, Nakesha Lockheart, Annmarie Monhan, just to name a few." Levi's eyes flashed at the guards as Anna lowered her head in shame. "It's okay..." she said quietly. "I'll come willingly. I know my crimes."

"Perfect." replied the MP guard. "There's no chance you'll be getting out of this trial, brat." Anna clenched her fists as her wrists were handcuffed. Her eyes remained on Levi until she was forced out, unable to see him any longer. Life is bittersweet. This much she knew. The best nights of your life can turn into the worst in a mere matter of seconds. Levi watched her in shock, staring at where she was a few seconds ago. She'd slipped through his fingers again. How much more of this was he willing to take?
