The contact made each of them forget the world for a minute. Finn held onto (Y/N's) face, her hands gently grazed his sides. They sustained the same kiss for a few seconds, shifted back, then connected again. They repeated that for about four kisses, the third one being the longest. Both pulled away simultaneously.

'Wow...' He signed and smiled. (Y/N) had never really seen him smile so brilliantly-except when he laughed at her for butchering a sign-but she thought it was adorable.

"What?" She asked.

'YOU ARE JUST... SO AMAZING.'

Before (Y/N) could say or sign anything else, her mother came in. From what Finn could tell, she wasn't very happy. Better yet, she was really goddamn angry.

"I've told you, time and time a-fucking-gain to make sure this house is spotless before anyone..." Finn glanced back and forth between mother and daughter, had a sudden realization, and hoped it wasn't showing in his face as it typically did.

The epiphany made Finn aware that both deaf and hearing people are left out sometimes. It seemed so obvious, and he didn't understand why he'd been so selfish all this time. And... why didn't he notice it at his own house?

(Y/N) wasn't fluent in sign, and every time she'd go to Finn's house and watch he and his mother sign at what appeared to be an impossible speed, she questioned her own ability of understanding the language.

But now wasn't the time to be worrying about that. Finn wanted to help them resolve their issues, because he was a people-pleaser. He wanted everyone to be happy.

Except... what was the little hand-talker supposed to do?

What the fuck was
(the deaf boy)
helpless Finn Wolfhard to do in such unruly circumstances?

Nothing. He could do nothing. Finn watched the argument closely until (Y/N's) mom stormed out and he felt the draft of the door when it slammed.

'(Y/N), I'm sorry... it's late. I have to go.' Before she could get his attention, he'd gathered his jacket and was closing the door behind him. She thought him inconsiderate, and sulked about his leaving. But she wasn't aware of the guilt he'd felt.

He was starting to hate himself again.

As he walked home, it began to rain. It was frigid and his jacket didn't have a hood, making his already pale face turn a new shade of white. He mainly kept his eyes on the ground, and for a seventeen-year-old they looked very sunken, like he hadn't gotten enough sleep. As his shoes kicked up puddles, he wondered what the water sounded like under his feet. His eyes burned at the realization that he would never know.

Finn reached his home when the sky was at its darkest blue, just before turning black. It was extremely cloudy on the way, but upon his arrival the rain had mostly settled and a faint halo of color had appeared around the moon. Stars glittered in the atmosphere.

The next morning, Finn greeted (Y/N) with a text:

-Hey, good morning. I'm really sorry, seriously, about me leaving and how your mom was yelling at you. I know it probably hurt you a lot to have me leave right after, when you needed me. If you can maybe come over today, I'll explain everything. Until then, <3.-

(Y/N) read the text and was happy, but did not reply. She only thought to herself,

(Yes, I'll come. I could never stay mad at you, Finn. You know that.)

Hours later at nearly three o'clock, she messaged him back and said that instead of coming to his house, she would meet him by the the telephone pole (it was a mile closer to her house, and besides, it would be weird at Finn's house... alone.) Yes, they'd still be alone, but it felt better to (Y/N) knowing it was out in the open, and (most likely) no one could catch them.

Finn was the first to arrive at the designated spot. He stood there with nothing much to do than look around (he liked getting on social media, but it got boring after a while).

During this time, he was also debating on whether or not to 'check out', but decided against it only because he didn't feel completely safe, all alone and out in the open. Soon though, his mind did wonder.

(What if... what if today, some time in this moment, the world decided to turn against me?)
No, get a hold of yourself Finn-
(Why wouldn't it? Why wouldn't the world throw a goddamn curveball at me?)
(Y/N) will be here soon, stop-
(JUST FUCKING DO IT I'M TIRED OF WAITING I KNOW IT'S COMING EVEN THOUGH I APOLOGIZED SHE FUCKING HATES ME SHE HATES ME SHE HATES ME SHE HATES)

As these incessant thoughts piled up, Finn pitifully wept. His eyes would still be red, his lips swollen, and his face flushed when (Y/N) arrived, and as she approached him, she would think back to last night when he cried to her about his deafness.

"Finn?" She asked softly, using his name sign (letter F over the heart). "What happened? Are you okay?"

'YES, OK.' Finn wiped his tears, but a few more slipped out. (Y/N) dried those for him. She gently held his face and their eyes lined up. "You don't look okay. Please... talk to me."

The two traveled farther until they were in the middle of the woods, surrounded by large oak trees that looked like they were beginning to wither. Eventually they came upon one that had fallen, and sat. Finn was the first to strike conversation.

'I HATE CRYING... FEEL WEAK... AND MY HEAD HURTS.'

(Y/N) sighed and nodded, understanding what he meant. Then she signed back (slowly), 'I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN... BUT CRYING MEANS YOU'RE HUMAN... RIGHT?'

This caused Finn to look down and smile. One of his hands took (Y/N's) and in that moment their eyes met again. Using his left hand, he signed, 'I WISH I COULD LEARN TO TALK.'

Using her right, (Y/N) wanted to tell him that he didn't need to talk. He had no reason to. She never minded using sign for him, and had a bit of understanding that it took less effort for her than it would for him to ever speak.

Ultimately, she asked, 'WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO SAY FIRST?'

Finn's eyes glanced toward the gray sky in thought. His teeth chewed the inside of his lower lip, and similar to last night (Y/N) couldn't help noticing how their surrounding light adorned him, making the boy appear almost heavenly. A sheepish grin pulled at his lips.

'YOUR NAME.'

(a/n GUYS IT'S FINALLY HERE ILYSM THANKS FOR WAITING IM SORRY FOR BEING LIKE THIS)
