her fingers danced in the wind, moving up, down, and around.

she felt a sense of peace as the thunderbird drove along the bare highway.

everything felt right in that moment: the sky was the perfect shade of blue, the clouds looked bouncy and soft, the sun shone brightly.

a content sigh falls past her lips, her sweet eyes shifting from the view outside to the one right beside her.

the boy in the driver's seat takes his eyes off of the road for just a second, a small smile on his face as he glances at her.

there was never a time when he wasn't smiling if he was with her.

his large hand reaches over the console and his fingers intertwine with her smaller ones.

he squeezes her hand in reassurance, knowing that despite how excited and happy she was, the voice in the back of her head would tell her this is all a mistake.

they were running from home.

the two of them used to always joke about it when they were younger. it wasn't until recently that it stopped being a joke and became their reality.

they've known each other since they were eight, having been neighbors turned best friends.

quite abruptly, the boy pulls over, shutting the car off before turning in his seat so that he's completely facing the girl.

she looks up at him in confusion.

"why'd you stop?" the sun hits her eyes and causes them to turn a lighter shade, the boy's heart melts at the sight.

"because i-" he cuts himself off, a vast amount of arguments going on within his head until eventually he just says 'fuck it'.

a gasp escapes her as his hands grab her face and leans in real close, his currently light brown eyes searching desperately for a sign.

he didn't want to regret doing this-hell, part of him didn't want to do it at all, but the majority of him couldn't hold in such a secret any longer.

and so, with every last inch of his dignity, he molds his lips against hers.

neither of them move for what seems like ages, though it's only been a few seconds. their eyes are wide open, and if it had been with anyone else this would be awkward.

finally, her lashes flutter shut as she relaxes into the kiss. her [s/c] hands gently reach up and rest on his broad shoulders, her lips puckering against his own.

they pull away a minute later, dumbfounded.

"boris..." she hums, eyes still shut in ecstasy.

he shakes his head, hushing her.

"i love you, [y/n/n]. you know it was bound to happen. i've loved you since you first set foot on my yard that rainy afternoon. you're my best friend, i can come to you with anything and vice versa. you're everything i can ask for in a girl..."

she doesn't answer, her skin breaking out into a sweat, her eyes sparkling with tears.

why couldn't she say anything? she loved him, she did. so why in the hell couldn't she just say it?

now there are tears clouded within his eyes, the once soft brown color now changing to almost black.

"say something." he whispers, worried that he just ruined everything, "[y/n], why aren't you saying anything?"

her sad eyes flicker from his eyes to the entirety of his face, a scream of horror coming from her as she notices the amount of blood oozing from the gashes on his forehead.

she blinks before looking around, terrified, finding herself sitting on the side of the road, a crushed and broken car only a few feet away from her.

"[y/n]!" his voice pleads for her, but she shakes her head and covers her ears.

"i'm sorry, boris." she whimpers, hugging herself tightly and wishing that things didn't have to be this way.

he continues to cry out for her, but the more he does, the more his voice sounds distorted, until it's not even his own anymore.

something clamps down on the female's arms and then she's jumping up, sight blurry due to tears and her clothes sticking to her from sweat.

[y/n] glances around to find herself in her room, her brother, theo, standing over her with a worried expression.

"you dreamt about him again, didn't you?" his voice is soft, not wanting to startle her.

her only response is a broken sob.

he sighs, slowly sitting down beside her and pulling her smaller frame into a hug.

"i miss him too."
