GUYS.

Realization.

Mary Winchester burns on the ceiling because of Dean.

John, Sam, and Dean are sucked into the hunting life because of DEAN.

Because in 4x03, "In the Beginning" when Dean goes back in time and sees his parents and Mary's family, he shows them John's journal and says that the Yellow Eyed Demon is going to be at a woman named Liddy's house, so he's going to go and kill it. Samuel Winchester makes no move to follow him there, but when Mary asks her dad where Dean went, he tells her that he went to Liddy's. Liddy is a friend of Mary's so she demands they go and help her. At this confrontation is when the Yellow Eyed Demon first picks up Mary's scent and decides he likes her. Dean later accidentally reveals to the demon that he kills Dean's mother, who is Mary.

If Dean hadn't told the Campbells where he was going, then they never would've shown up, Samuel would never have been possessed by the demon, and Mary would never have been chosen.

The Yellow Eyed Demon picks the Winchesters because Dean unknowingly led him to them.

And technically, it's all the angels fault because it's CAS who sends Dean back in time with the order to "Fix it."

But we never find out in the episode exactly what Cas wants Dean to fix.

How much are you willing to bet that the angels sent him back in time JUST so that Azazel could pick up Mary's trail and make a deal with her?

AND how much do you bet that the other angels didn't tell Cas all of this? I bet they didn't. I bet they ordered him to send Dean back in time to fix things, but they didn't tell Cas that this was apart of the larger plan, if they even knew. The angels have been mapping out Mary and John Winchester's lives for ages, it's obvious they must have thought of this one.

So it's the angels fault that Mary burned, but they used Dean to do that.

I bet Dean figured out that it was his fault, too. He's smart, although sometimes we underestimate that. I bet he figured it out one day, and now Mary's death is just another thing he will forever blame himself for, even though it was the FREAKING ANGEL'S FAULT.
