A stream of laughter filled the area, buzzing from the arcade machines rang through their eardrums. JB pulled pieces from her cotton candy on a stick into her mouth. Her hands were painted pink from the sticky residue left behind.
"Jellybean." She heard her father call for her, looked up to him and smiled," How is your cotton candy?"
She giggled stuffing her face with more pieces," It's good, Dad. Thanks for taking Juggie and I to the fair."
"You're welcome, Jelly." FP said as he snuck a piece from Jellybean's stick.
Jellybean softly glared in her dad's direction and FP smirked at her," Sorry it's called a parent tax."
Jughead rolled his eyes at the pair, slurping down his Icee and watched for free samples. His dad offered to take them to annual fair as a surprise. Although he already knew; since Jughead likes to seek for the truth.
Jellybean is quite the opposite. She liked having surprises. It was rare to have a day at the fair.
"Dad, can we play some games?" Jellybean asked her dad.
FP smiles at his daughter and nods. Jellybean grabbed the tickets from her father's hand. Jughead rolled his eyes and felt a pull. He looked down and noticed that he was dragged along.
"Dad?"
"Jug, just go with and make her happy!" He shouted as his son got further away from him.
He watched as his kids went to play games. He heard his son groaning from a mile away. Even for his youngest age, she was pretty persistent. He glanced at the fun colors and interesting concepts for fried food choices. Every annual fair had their foods. He found some fried veggies he actually didn't think were half bad.
"FP, is that you?" He heard a voice that startled him. He looked back and saw the blonde smirking," Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I was just surprise that you were eating vegetables, let alone fried."
He wiped his mouth and fingers with the napkin and rolled his eyes. The blonde contained an eye roll back. He knew all her tricks and what was up her sleeves.
"Haha, very funny, Smith." He retorted.
Alice smirked again," All I'm saying was I was shocked to see 'mr. I don't like fair food' eat.... well— fair food."
He sipped at his drink, sighing and smiled sadly at her quotes." I don't not like fried fair food. I'm just not a fan of the strange combinations." He defended.
She lifted her bottle to her lips, a smug grin marked her features and she giggled." Whatever you say, Jones."
He cleared his throat," Do you... um..." He rubbed the back of his neck nervously," wanna like walk around the fair with me?" She nodded, starting to walk beside him.
"How's— life?" He asked, rubbing his neck.
She sighed. She didn't want to tell him about how Hal cheated, then revealed himself to be the Black hood. I mean who would blame her.
"Well, my husband cheated on me..." FP's eyes flicker in shock and hatred.
"Oh... Alice, I'm sorry."
She chuckles humorlessly," That's not all. He also was the Black hood." He stopped walking and stared at her.
"Are you serious?" She nodded, causing him to embrace in a hug. She really did appreciate the hug. It had been so long since she had gotten hugged.
"Yeah, but it is whatever. It just humiliating. What about you? Where's your wife?"
Now it was FP's turn to laugh," She left. Funny thing was she didn't take the kids. No, she just got up and left. She said she couldn't handle the way the Mom's judged her because of my job."
She reached for his arm, slowly squeezing it," I'm so sorry, FP. If it's worth anything, she's a bitch!"
For the first in weeks, he laughed. He felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He had to raise his kids all on his own after Gladys decided to take off.
"I still can't understand why being a Sheriff's wife was so bad. I mean I get I worked a lot, but it was also to feed my family." Alice could hear the anger still boiling hot in his thoughts.
She decided to change the subject,"Oh,look there's pinball!" She winked over at the pinball machine.
"Just like old times... sure why not." He said as he grabbed two tickets and handed it them over to her.
She squealed in happiness. She took the tickets from his hands and inserted them into the machine slot. The pinballs came rolling down, she grabbed one and tossed underhand into the circular hole.
She heard the ding and jumped up," Yes!" She threw another one into the hole. FP groaned as his barely made it in the hole. Alice turned to him and stuck her tongue.
"I'm winning just like old times!" FP rolls his eyes and picks up the ball, eyeing the exact position it would go in.
"See! Look who's laughing now!" He cheered, throwing his fists up in the air.
She fakes a pout, causing him to drop his ball. She quickly dashes for it and scores the winning point.
"Me! I won!" She laughed in his face, dancing around and smiling.
FP tried to see angry, but he wasn't. He was glad she beat him and it felt just old times. He used to take her to fair on their dates back in high school.
That was until she left him for Hal and kissed Fred on a dare. He was more furious about her kissing Fred. 'cause Fred knew how he felt back her.
"Good game, Smith." He stated, handing her winning prize.
She took the fluffy stuffed bunny and gave a little squeeze with her arms. She took a soft sniff and noticed right away the bunny smelled like chocolate.
She looked back at FP, who smirked at her. He looked older and her heart did a flutter. It brought her back to the time they dated back then. She still knows she hurt and regrets that with her whole heart.
"Thanks for letting me win against like old times, FP. It— this was very nice." FP caught her looking down at his lips.
He slowly leaned forward, his lips were about to connect with hers when he heard the sound of children squealing. Him and Alice broke away from their thoughts and faced the two kids running towards them.
"Daddy!" The little girl called for him.
FP saw Jellybean raving towards with him a giant panda hugging her body. He almost could laugh at the fact his son was carrying three more animals in his arms.
"Yes, Jelly?"
Jellybean jumped up and down with the panda bouncing in her arms," Jughead won this for me!" FP' eyes wander over to his son and smiled.
"Is that so?" Jughead nodding, shrugging to hold all the heavy stuffed animals.
Daddy, I want a milkshake! Can we pretty please go get Milky-shakes?" Jellybean pleas with her daddy.
FP chuckles softly to himself as his six-year-old used her famous puppy dog eyes on him. Jughead huffed under the weight of the stuffed animals.
"Jellybean, It's milkshakes." He corrected his sister.
Her eyes flashed toward her dad again and pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes," Please daddy, can we get milkshakes? I will clean my room for a week and won't cry like a crybaby. Pleaseeee!"
Alice smiled at the little girl's really good point. Her daughters could be very good at coming up with stuff like this. Betty and Polly always try to make her life difficult; more Polly than Betty. Betty was still ten-years-old and Polly just turned eleven last May.
"Oh, come on, FP. Look at that face! How could you say no to a cute little puppy face like this?" She said as she gently poked FP's daughter's cheek.
FP sighed in defeat and nods his head," Alright, alright, we can get milkshakes at Pop's."
"Yay!" Both Jughead and Jellybean cheer for joy. FP looked over at Alice, shaking his head. Alice couldn't stop smirking.
"Sorry, Jones. Those kids are just too cute." She sighed with a smirk still marking her features.
