Chapter Seventy:  I will pick you up 7 PM sharp

One year later.

Finn's POV

"Son, are you done? We're almost late."

I sprayed the bottle of perfume to myself, fixed my tie, and got out of the room.

"Yeah uncle, your definition of late is like, one hour early." Uncle was sitting on the couch, also properly groomed. He stood up and gave a big clap on my back. "Let's go. You be the one driving this time."

Before I went to the garage, I went to my mother's room to check up on her. She was currently sleeping, so I placed a note that I already prepared dinner for her tonight and that it was on the table. I already asked her to come with us but she was adamant in staying home today.

"Love you mom." As I placed the note on the desk beside the bed, I placed a light kiss on her forehead. Ever since the operation, I had been checking on my mother more often than before, realizing that I had to take good care of her and be there for her... Or else it would be too late.

Too late. These two words rang in my ears like the chorus of my favorite song.

Uncle was already heating up the engine of the car, waiting for me. I nodded at him so he went out of the car, and went back in but this time, riding shotgun.

Driving his black Toyota, I did not know what to expect upon arriving at the destination. Heck, even though I stayed in Cali for more than a year already, I still relied on Google Maps and Waze for my destination.

"Remember, show off your business ideas and negotiate properly." Uncle's voice was firm, and helping him actually taught me so many things that I didn't expect to learn. His startup was pretty rough at first around the edges, but I could see its huge potential.

"Okay." I replied back with a firm manner.

We arrived at a fancy restaurant that surely, I could not afford. But what uncle told me was that his potential business partner was the one paying the meal anyway.

The server brought us to a VIP room and it felt classier than ever. Walls were decorated with red and brown themed, with red as wallpaper and brown as the wooden frames on the edges. Renaissance paintings and faux tiger heads were hung on the wall. There was a book shelf on the side full of Shakespeare's works and other classics.

"Is this like... A rich people fetish room or what?" I waited for my uncle to sit down before I did the same.

"Don't say things like that when they come, alright?" Uncle gave a thrifty chuckle as he grabbed the wine placed on top of the table and gave a quick scan on the label.

"I don't know, uncle, seems like a handful to deal with rich people." I stood up again and studied the items inside the bookshelf thoroughly. At least rich people love to read books... Or maybe they just used books as a sign to be classy and intellectual.

Uncle was just studying the wine while I grabbed Shakespeare's Richard the Third, scanning through the dialogues.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door which startled the both of us. A waiter came in and brought in a few people wearing suits.

"Roland! You're early!" One of the bald, older guy said as he went to hug uncle Roland.

"Of course Charlie!"

The four men laughed together as if they were childhood friends that separated long ago and were brought back together by fate, but according to uncle, they just met recently.
