Chapter Four

A week has officially gone by since I've started my residency. It's been hectic, it's been tiring and it's been the best week of my life.

I've waited my whole childhood, my whole time in medical school to finally be able to rush around a hospital, care for patients and observe surgery's.

"Can we have dinner tonight? I want to talk you, it's important. I've been seeing someone" my dad asked.

"Yeah the RV?" I asked.

"No, well go to a restaurant tonight" my dad explained. I shook my head okay and continued on filling out my patients chart. I knew he was going to introduce me to Meredith. It was only a matter of time.

I crept around the corner and saw my dad talking to Meredith, her shaking her head okay and then him walking away.

I sighed, I didn't want people knowing my dad was Derek Shepherd in this hospital, but I also knew Meredith would have a target on her back when people find out she's dating my dad.

"Isabella?" Bailey called out ripping me from my daydream.

"Yes?"

"Room 119 needs a briefing let's go" Bailey said. I followed her immediately leaving all my thoughts behind about my dad and Meredith and instead switching my focus to being a doctor.

"Okay O'Malley tell us about the patient" Bailey sternly said.

"Okay, uh, patient's name is Sarah Miller's came for abdominal pain"

"What could be the causes?" Bailey asked. Christina and I both raised our hands.

"Uh, Isabella"

"Appendicitis has ruptured" I answered. Bailey show her head in agreeance.

"Good, you can perform the surgery then"

"Wait, What all by herself? I want in on that" Christina shouted in the hallway. Bailey turned around furious at the actions and behavior of Christina.

"Yang, I've been backed up on my charts. Here since your so eager to want to do things you can do them" Bailey sassed before walking away.

I continued to follow Bailey as we made our way to an OR for scrub in.

"Chief we have Isabella performing the removal of an appendix. Put her down on the board for OR 3" Bailey informed Webber. Chief Webber's eyes lit up like a child on Christmas morning.

"Great, can't wait to watch" Chief Webber happily said as he jotted the surgery down on the board. The two walked away but I stood in front of the board for a moment longer.

Taking in the sight of my name written on that board has made all the restless nights studying worth it. I walked away and headed to the OR 3 to scrub in.

The patient was brought up and placed on the operating table. I was just finished up scrubbing in making sure my surgical cap was on tight. It was a gift from Addison and my dad when I got accepted in to Harvard Medical. It was maroon with my first name and last initial embroidered on it.

The anesthesiologist began to placed the patient under.

The moment she was unconscious I was able to start the surgery. "Let's begin" I said. I looked up to see all my fellow interns watching, along with the Chief and many other doctors who were free. The one person who caught my eyes was my dad. He was stationed all the way in the back next to Meredith.

"Ten blade" I called out for. I cut through the layers of skin exposing the bodies organs. I located the appendix and was able to remove successfully before closing the body back up.

Once I was down I stepped back to let the nurses prep the patient to go back down to the room.

Cheers and claps were heard from the viewing room. I looked up to see my dad talking to Meredith about something, his focus was on her.

I stripped the gloves and the gown into the garbage before scrubbing out.

"Congratulations Isabella, best surgery I've seen from intern in a while" Bailey informed me as we both were scrubbing.

"Thank you, it truly means a lot" I said lacking happiness in my voice.

"He's in his honeymoon stage. He'll come around" Bailey said as she left the scrub room. Her response shocked me. How did she know about them two and more importantly how did she know that's what I was upset about?

I walked out and was greeted by my dad.

"Great job" he said with the biggest smile I've seen since I told him I was going to be a doctor.

"Thanks, I'm going to have to ask for a rain check on dinner tonight. I'm gonna need to monitor the patient" I explained.

"Yeah no worries we can do it tomorrow" my dad said giving me on big hug before walking away.

A few hours passed and it was almost 11 o'clock.

"Go home Isabella, your patient is fine" Bailey said as he walked by the room.

I began to gather my things and head to the house. I walked into the house completely exhausted to find Meredith and my dad making out on the couch.

"Uh, Dr. Shepherd. I'll just be going to my room" I said not knowing how to handle the situation.

"Wait Bella" my dad called out. "Meredith this is my daughter Isabella. Bella this is the girl I'm dating".

Meredith and I just stood still, not sure what to say or how to go about this.
