Chapter Six

We gathered in an empty conference room at the hospital.

"Addison why are you here?" My dad asked as he paced around the room. Addison and I were seated in the chairs.

"What a wife can't come across the country and win back her husband?" Addison snarked.

"No, because you're not that type of wife" my dad sassed.

"Fine, Richard called me here about a case"

"Richard called you?" My dad said flinging his arms in the air.

"What he didn't tell you?"

"No, Addison clearly he didn't tell me" my dad mimicked.

"Can you two stop fighting" I yelled. I was beyond exhausted and wanted to go home and get sleep.

"Look I love you both and I really mean it but right now you two are acting like children. Addison you were in the wrong when you cheated on my dad. He had every right to act the way he did. Dad you were wrong for saying I was your child, I view Addison as a second mom. Now can you both hash this out like normal adults. Go to a therapist please" I said. I then grabbed my bag and walked out of the room heading home for the night.

I woke up to find Meredith waiting for the bathroom.

"Listen I don't want this to be awkward. My dad left because my stepmom cheated on him. Go talk to him, he really likes you" I said before walking down the stairs.

"Morning" Izzy said all cheerfully. I on the other hand was far from cheerful.

"Morning" I mumbled.

"So I heard Mrs. Shepherd is in town, is that your mom?" Izzy asked.

"Wow word spreads fast, no she's my stepmom but I love her just like she is my mom. Expect I'm mad at her right now for cheating but that's beyond the point" I explained. George came down the stairs grabbing a mug and pouring himself some coffee.

"George can we talk?" I asked but George ignored me and took his mug full of coffee upstairs.

I sighed letting my head fall into my hands.

"What happened between you two?" Izzy asked.

"He asked me out last night but I turned him down. George is a great guy but I have my eye on someone else. Besides I'm not here for love I'm here to be a doctor" I said shaking my romantic thoughts away. I grabbed my cup chugging the last of my coffee before heading out the door to the hospital.

I got to the hospital early and decided to begin my rounds before everyone else.

"It must be nice having your mother here" Chief Webber said from behind me.

"She's not really my mother, she's my stepmom" I informed him.

"Oh I'm sorry, I just assumed from the way she talked about you all these years. You know you're lucky to have someone like her in your life" Chief Webber said before walking away.

"Okay lets do our rounds" Bailey called out from behind the nurses station.

"Uh, Grey and Shepherd you've been requested today" Bailey informed us. Meredith looked at me unhappy.

"Ah great I see you two are here. Shall we get started?" Addison asked. I shook my head and followed Addison to the room of a very pregnant patient.

"Okay we have Jane Summers age 32 pregnant with twins" Meredith explained as she examined the chart.

"Today you two are going to scrub in on the surgery. We are going to do a c section on of the twins hopefully keeping the other one in there to continue developing" Addison explained.

"Jane any questions?" I asked as she was being prepped for surgery. The patient shook her head no just looking at her stomach.

"Addison I'm sorry for how I acted back in New York" I said as we walked out of the room.

"Bella, you're a great kid, don't let this get to you" Addison said before walking ahead of Meredith and I. I quickly looked at Meredith who had no expression before continuing after Addison.

"Why did you do it?" I asked. It was extremely inappropriate to be asking this in front of colleagues at the hospital but I had to know.

"You wouldn't understand" Addison said. We were now standing on the bridge that connected to the two sides of the hospital.

"I may not but you owe me this, I need to know" I said. Her pager suddenly went off indicating we had a problem with Jane. We both ran towards the room to find both her and the babies in destress.

"We need to get those babies out now. Get me an OR immediately" Addison yelled as we pushed the patient to an OR.

"Jane just relax" I instructed as we brought her into the room. We had no time to put her under and was only able to numb her lower half. We placed a curtain up so Jane was unable to see what was going on.

"Ten blade" Addison called out.
