Chapter Fifty Six

It was week since I had come returned to Seattle. Jackson and I were officially house hunting as the apartment would soon be too small for three. We ideally wanted something homey and close to the hospital.

I entered the hospital through the double doors to find Christmas decorations up. The holiday season was a slow yet busy time. Mostly trauma and ER.

It made my transition slightly easier. After all it was my first official day back.

"Ah Dr.Shepherd welcome back" Dr.Hunt said to me as I gathered my patients charts from the nurse.

"Thank you Dr. Hunt"

"I gathered an intern for you today" he explained. In front of me was girl who looked beyond nervous but was trying to conceal it with a smile. I saw right through it, was she forgetting I was once in her shoes?

"Dr. Isabella Shepherd pleasure to meet you" I said extending my arm out.

"The pleasures all mine. Jo Wilson" she said with a smile.

"Great let's get to work" I said.

"Now being on my service means a lot of stepping back and watching. It isn't going to be hands on in the beginning. The brain isn't something to be messed with. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be prepared either" I said. She shook her head and followed.

"Good morning" I said to the nurses at the nurses station.

"Is that Dr. Isabella Shepherd?" A voice behind me said.

"Aunt Lizzie"

"I heard you got knocked up. Had to see it for myself"

"You make it sound like I'm an irresponsible teenager. Are you forgetting I'm 27 now?" I asked.

Lizzie and I had a weird relationship due to the weird relationship her and my dad shared. It was passed along from him to me. I didn't mind it as each of my dad's sisters and I had different relationships with.

"Ah Lizzie thought I heard you from the down the hall. Mocking on my daughter?"

"No just surprised. I barely get calls anymore from both you" she said.

"Look I don't need you donating a nerve. Especially not from you" my dad said. I figured it was now or never to leave the conversation.

I walked away to find Bailey looking stressed.

"Ah Isabella just the person I was looking for. I need to know if you and Jackson are coming to the wedding today"

"Yes we will be there" I said.

"Okay great I put you down on the guest list already. Can you - uh can you keep an eye on Kepner while I'm on my honeymoon. I put her in charge but she's already pawning off the work to an intern"

"Yeah I can keep an eye" I said. Kepner still wasn't my favorite person but I had to let what happened go.

"Great thank you" she said before scurrying off. I gathered my files and handed them to Jo.

"Can you scribe notes and organize them by dates" I said handing her the charts.

"Really scut work?"

"Did I not tell you you weren't going to be scrubbing in today? I'm not even on the board for a surgery yet and you expect to be cutting open people"

She gulped at my response.

"Hey be nice to the interns" Jackson said from behind me. He kissed my cheek before continuing on his way. "I have a meeting with your dad and aunt" he said.
