Chapter Eighteen

Dr.Burke was the doctor presenting Denny's case at the M&M today.

After presenting the facts, the many surgeons and doctors at Seattle Grace had a flood of questions. One that was repeatedly asked was why Bailey wasn't presenting.

Suddenly Bailey stood up at the podium relieving Dr. Burke of presenting and answering questions.

"Okay questions?" Bailey asked. Almost the whole room raised their hands. It was then we all looked at each other afraid for Bailey.

As Bailey was being scrutinized for having a baby and being hormonal, George nudged. Izzy was standing at the top of the stairs listening to Denny's case.

"I have another question" Dr. Savoy shouted from the seats.

"Yes?" Bailey responded.

"Did Dr. Shepherd have any comment to make about the mistake of his daughter? I mean she is your intern and was involved in the supposed cutting of the LVAD wire." Dr.Savoy asked all cunningly. It was then he turned around to face me.

"Huh, trying to make your father and stepmother look bad? You could have jeopardized your father's career" Dr. Savoy continued.

It was then at Alex stood up "Hey she had nothing to do with this" Alex shouted.

"Karev" Bailey reprimanded.

"Enough, having concerns is one thing Dr.Savoy but scrutinizing an intern is too far. This meeting is dismissed" Weber announced.

I quickly sprinted out of the place.

"Hey I'm sorry-" Izzy began grabbing my arm. I quickly pulled away and ran to a bathroom. The tears I was holding in flood out at once.

Dr.Savoy was right, I wasn't thinking in the moment. Just being in that room could have costed me my job, my dad's job, Addison's job not to mention their reputations could hav been over just like that.

I think the tears were also tears I've been holding back for a while. Dr.Savoy's comment unleashed the bottled up emotions I've been holding in. I was sad that my dad was divorcing Addison, that he wasn't going to be with Meredith. I was also upset with Addison cheating on my dad. Come to think of it I never even reacted the day I found out.

It's been since then that I've truly showed my emotions.

A pounding on the bathroom door startled me out of my thoughts.

"Bella?" Addison called out into the bathroom. She walked in to find me perched on the toilet trying to cover up the tears.

"You know when I heard Dr. Savoy made an intern cry I didn't expect it to be you. Don't listen to whatever he said, he can be quite the asshole sometimes" Addison said trying to cheer me up.

"So I'm taking it you heard about the divorce. Did you know that your dad gave me the brownstone and the Hamptons?"

"He never liked the Hamptons" I commented. Just then the bathroom door swung openly violently to show my dad looking all worried.

"Bella Alex told me you were crying-" he began but his face changed once he saw Addison.

"Bella don't speak a word to Addison" my dad sternly said grabbing arm and escorting me out.

"What why?" I asked. In this moment I felt like a kid stuck between choosing.

"She's a liar. She had a relationship with Mark for two months. He slept in my house for two months. Did you know Bella?" My dad asked.

I looked Addison, as if it wasn't bad that she cheated on my dad, she went and had a relationship with him while my dad was across the country.

"No" I said walking away from Addison with my dad.

"But you gave her the brownstone" I said to him as we walked away.

"That was before she told me. Possessions don't matter, I just want to be in Seattle without her here" my dad said clearly fuming. He stopped in his tracks turning towards me.

"Enough about me. Are you okay? What did Dr. Savoy say to you?" My dad asked a question a minute. 

"It's over and done with" I said looking down at my feet. My dad was in no state to be fighting with doctors. I decided it was best to just shrug it off.

"I'm fine now. I have to get back to rounds" I said walking away. I approached the group to see them giving me pity looks.

"I don't want to pity.  Let's just continue this day like nothing happened" I said as we waited for Bailey to come give us our assignments.

"Karev and Shepherd you're on Sloan's service" Bailey said. I huffed in annoyance, I just couldn't catch a break.
