Today was the day.... the navy blue scrubs were distributed to each 4th year resident for a what essential was considered a trial run.

Webber walked in to the break room. Looking quite happy if I did say so myself.

"I have great faith in you...I can because I choose you, I trained you and guess what. The training wheels are coming off, people" he began.

I looked over to Meredith and Cristina. Meredith looked excited while Cristina looked concerned.

"Navy scrubs?" Meredith asked.

"Attending scrubs. You are attendings today. Run the cases, take point, but don't be a fool. If you get over your head cry uncle. Until then congratulations, you've been promoted" Webber continued.

I excitedly put on the navy scrubs.

"How do I look?" I asked Jackson spinning around for show. He placed his hands on my hips giving me a kiss on the lips.

"Hot" he whispered into my ear before leaving for rounds.

I've been thinking about Peds and Neuro a lot for my specialty. I was more leaning towards Neuro not only because I was comfortable with it and my was a neurosurgeon but after losing a baby it just didn't feel right peds.

Today, however, I was in charge of Robbin's patients. I meet her in the peds wing to get started.

"We have a boy in Room 1134. Just waiting for Mark and I believe Alex" she explained.

"Plastic surgeon? For peds?" I questioned. She smiled.

"You'll see" she said before walking down the hall to the room. We waited outside for a few minutes before Mark and Alex walked down the hall coming closer to us.

"You ready?" She asked. Both and Alex and I shook our heads.

We walked into to find a male patient who is seeking breast reduction surgery. He was 13 years old and had female like boobs. I couldn't imagine life for him.

"Both Dr.Karev and Dr. Shepherd here will be performing the surgery" Robbins and Sloan explained to the patient and his parent.

"I don't know" the mother began causing her son to look disappointed in her choice.

"Mom you said after my bar mitzvah I could make the decision because I was a man" the child whined. He seemed frustrated with his mother's refusal.

"We will let you talk it over" Robbins said to the mother. We all exited the room.

"Let her think about it. It's the two of you's job to convince her of the surgery" Mark said before walking away.

"You got this" Robbins said before leaving us to our own devices.

"I'll page you when he's ready" Alex said. I rolled my eyes.

"It's just as much my case as it is yours" I said to him.

"Whatever go care for the pooped up diapers and crying kids" Alex sassed. I huffed walking down the hall to the nurses station for the next patient of the day.

After examining a handful of  kids with either a stomach ache, broken arm or having ingested weird items I was finally paged by Alex.

I made my way over to the room to see Alex mad.

"She's refusing surgery. She thinks it's too dangerous" Alex whined. He was just pissed he wasn't going to be able to do the surgery solo.

"Let me talk to her" I said walking in.

"Have we come to a decision?" I asked looking over the chart once more.

"When he's older he can have the surgery" the mother stated.

"Mom you said after my bar matizvah I could make the decision" the boy cried.

"Enough. I'm calling your father" she said leaving the room at once. I went to follow after her while Alex talked to the boy.

"Excuse, I don't mean to intrude or pressure you but every surgery has their complications. I mean we lost a woman with hiccups last year. Something 99.9% of people survive. It's putting aside the risk itself and deciding whether or not taking that risk is gonna be worth it. I think your son will benefit from it. He'll be a normal high schooler" I began.

"I want to hear it from Dr. Robbins or Dr. Sloan not two young kids pretending to play doctor" she said. I obeyed her wishes and walked away.

Just as I was about to begin my rounds again I got a 911 page from my dad.  I ran down to the OR placing a mask on over my mouth.

"You paged?"

"Meredith is in the OR next door performing a solo surgery on a brain bleed. Can you go help out? Watch, let her perform this solo if she can. I know you know what to do if something goes wrong" my dad said to me.

"Ok" I said. Heading to the scrub in room for the next OR.

I walked in to find Meredith doing good so far.

"Dr. Shepherd sent me incase you need help. I'm just going to watch" I said behind Meredith who was fully concentrated.

"You're the backup help" Lexie said.

"I've watched neuro surgery's my whole life. I've seen almost every scenario. It's better nothing" I said to Lexie.

I watched as Meredith began to cut the skull cap before locating the bleed and controlling it.

Just as Meredith was about to finish with the bleed my dad walked in.

"What do we got?" He asked.

"She's good" I said.

"I'm good. Let me finish" Meredith said.

He smiled under his mask, beaming at the wonderful job Meredith did all by herself.

As we scrubbed out my dad asked Meredith to leave.

"I'm sorry I didn't let you do the solo surgery with Karev" my dad began.

"Don't worry about it. I actually think I'm declaring my specialty. I'm picking neuro" I said. I felt at home more so with neuro than with peds. After loosing the baby to a miscarriage I don't think I was in the right mindset to work with child.

My dad smiled and patted me on the back as we walked out.

I headed back to the break room discarding the navy scrubs into the bin. It was cooling wearing them for the day. Made me look forward to becoming an attending.

Jackson and I walked out of the hospital together.

"How was your surgery?" I asked.

"I, Uh, messed up. I punctured something" he said slightly embarrassed.

"Hey. It was your first solo surgery on the brain. Don't be so hard on yourself" I said to him. He weakly smiled.

"Wanna grab a drink?" He asked. I shook my head okay.
