Chapter Seventy Four

A week later....

I was walking into the on call room about to take a nap in between my shifts when Meredith comes barging in.

"I was about to take a nap I-"

"Look I need you to be my person right now. Cristina is overseas and Alex is mad at everyone. Your father and I aren't really talking right now but that's beyond the point. Please be my person" Meredith asked in a quiet crazed tone.

"Yes sure, tell me whatever" I said not really knowing how to react.

"Maggie is my sister. My mother and Richard had a child" Meredith said pacing the on call room.

"Wow, that's wow... does Richard know?" I asked.

"Yes. But, you can't tell a soul. Especially not Jackson or Derek" Meredith said pointing a finger at me.

"I promise I won't" I said throwing my hands up.

"Good" Meredith said swiftly leaving the on call room at once. I stood there stunned at the news before shaking my thoughts away and focusing on catching some sleep.

I laid down on the bed resting for about an hour.

I was currently scrubbing in for a surgery with Amelia.

"I just found out the craziest news" Amelia said in a normal tone.

"Same" I said calmly trying not to act too excited.

"Who does yours involve?" Amelia asked.

"Oh um I can't say"

"Yeah I shouldn't either"

We sat there for a minute rinsing off our hands when we both blurted out "does it involve sisters?"

"Oh you know?" I asked.

"Someone related to me by marriage right?"

I shook my head.

"Wow what a relief. I was keeping that secret all day" Amelia said relieved.

"I just found about an hour ago"

A nurse walked into the scrub room prepping herself for surgery as well. Amelia and I looked at each other dropping the subject quickly.

Later that night I walked into the house slightly exhausted but hoping to tuck Gia in before having dinner with Jackson.

"Maggie is resigning! Can you believe it" Jackson exclaimed all annoyed as I dropped my bag and slipped my shoes off by the front door.

"Hello to you too" I joked kissing him on the lips before walking past him into the dining room. Gia was in the high chair ready to eat.

"Bella did you hear what I said. Pierce is resigning, after a week!" Jackson said once more as he sat down at the table. "Is the hospital doing something wrong?" He pondered.

I looked at the plate of food beyond starved.

"Can we just eat dinner and focus on something other than work problems. Like maybe Gia" I said with a snarky tone.

"Sorry" Jackson said cutting into his steak.

"Look I wouldn't press you about this but it's like our only free night together this month" I said placing my utensils down to help feed Gia.

"You're right. How was work?" Jackson asked.

"It was good. Amelia and I did a craniotomy..." I began to ramble enjoying the time Jackson, Gia and I could all spend together.

A few days later Pierce had decided to stay alleviating all the stress Jackson had accrued because of it.

I was headed to the trauma floor about to ask another doctor about a consult when a woman began to yell furiously at Amelia.

"I need another doctor" she yelled.

Amelia looked frightened. I swiftly walked over with Hunt to find out what the problem was.

"What's the problem here?" Hunt asked.

"She cannot touch my mother. She's a drug addict!" The woman quickly confessed. "I can't have her operate on my parents"

"Dr. Shepherd is our-"

"Is a junkie! I met her in narcotics anonymous. She's hooked on oxy. Overdosed with her boyfriend and woke up with him dead in bed with her. I want another doctor!" the woman continued to confess.

I quickly looked to my dad to see concern all over his face.

"Dr. Shepherd, Bella Shepherd, your on the case. Ma'am this is the new doctor but let's go talk somewhere" Hunt began to discuss as he whisked her away. My dad ran over to Amelia who looked like a statue.

I followed the patient up to surgery.
