I stood in the back of the wedding.
I was already extremely late and didn't want to interrupt the wedding by entering and trying to find a seat.
April and Matthew were in the front of the church where they were about to exchange their I do's. I watched from a far when out of the corner of my eye I noticed someone contemplating getting up from their seat.
The custom suit made it obvious it was Jackson. I had gifted it to him after we both become owners of the hospital. Jackson fidgeted in his seat and after some hesitation stands up from his spot on the pew in one of the alters.
He steps into the center of the walk way.
I furrow my eyebrows at his poorly timed stance. He sits down once more only to stand up again. He adjusts his suit and takes a deep breathe before speaking.
"April I love you. I have always loved you" he exclaimed. The whole church becomes silent as April stands on the podium looking between Jackson and Matthew. She was forced with a decision to make.
Was she truly contemplating between choosing one or the other. I waited to see what her next move would be. Praying that she would look at Matthew and profess her love for him and not Jackson.
Instead, April in that moment looked at Jackson and ran down the aisle. Jackson grabbed her hand and the two fled the church.
"Jackson" I yelled multiple times trying to catch his attention. He quickly glanced back at me before continuing to his car with April.
The whole church was stunned at what had just transpired.
"Jackson" I yelled once more. My screams jolted me awake. I look around to find that it was just a mere dream or more like a nightmare.
The smoke from the hood had begun to settle and subside which indicated to me I've been unconscious for quite some time. I looked around to find the windshield cracked from what I presumed was the deer that had jumped out onto the road.
I tried to dig around for my purse which had fallen on the floor of the passenger seat in hopes of grabbing my phone. The seatbelt, however, was jammed and had pinned me tightly to the seat making it almost impossible for me to move around. I extended my arm as much as I can and successfully clasped onto the phone with the tips of my fingers.
I slowly pulled it up not wanting to fumble or drop it. I switched the phone on waiting for the screen to illuminate the car.
"No service, great" I muttered under my breathe. I dug around my purse once more for my emergency kit. It had a small scalpel and some stitches. It was a kit I prided myself on carrying, especially in a moment like this.
Once I grabbed the kit I opened it and used the scalpel to cut the jammed seatbelt. I pushed the driver side door opened.
Not one single car had driven by since I got into the accident. I looked around to find no inclination of life or help.
Waving my phone in the air provided no service either.
I slight humming was heard from the distance and became increasingly louder. Realizing a car was headed this way jumped up from the driver seat I was sitting in and waited for the car to round the corner of the road.
The car came to a halt pulling onto the side of the road.
"Bella?" Jackson called out from the car. He rushed over to me. "Are you okay? What happened?" He asked looking at the state of my car.
"I'm fine but I can't say the same about the car. A deer came out of nowhere and collided with my car" I explained.
"I don't care about the car. Are you sure your not injured?" He asked placing his hands on my cheek and checking over me.
"I'm fine really" I said. I looked him straight in the eyes. My heart on one hand swooned at the site of him but my brain couldn't get over the hurt he had caused.
"I'm sorry for everything. I left the wedding when you didn't show up and then I called the babysitter thinking you just went home. I'm glad you're okay" he softly said.
"Promise me. Promise here right now that you won't lie to me again. I need to know that was the old you" I said grabbing his hands in mine.
"Isabella, I promise" he said. My head and my heart finally agreed hearing those words. I crashed my lips against his only to break apart when the humming of another car was heard.
"C'mon let's head home" he said grabbing my hand and whisking next away to his car. I figured we would arrange for a tow truck to come in the morning.
"So how much extra do I pay the babysitter tonight?" Jackson asked. A laugh escaped my lips as he pulled off the side of the road and drove closer to the highway.
