"Hello?" I answered grabbing my ringing cellphone from my purse. Gia was currently on my hip while I tried to clean up all the gifts and goodie bags sent to the house. As much as I appreciated everyone's condolences and prayers I was sick of the casseroles and muffin baskets.

"Alex?" I questioned focusing back in to the call.

"No, I have heard from Meredith, why?" I asked stopping in the middle of the hallway. Jackson had just walked in placing a kiss on my cheek when he gave me a weird look.

"Yeah I'll try calling her on my way over" I said before ending the call.

"Is everything okay?" Jackson asked stripping his coat and hanging it up.

"Meredith is gone. Kids and all, just left without saying anything to anyone" I informed him. "I'm heading to her house now. You want to come?" I asked grabbing my bag.

"Yeah we can drop Gia off at my mom's on the way" Jackson said throwing his coat back on. We rushed out the door and into the car.
———
"No luck?"

"No, she's not answering" I explained as we walked into the house.

"Hey, so what's going on?" I asked finding everyone at Meredith's.

"It's just strange she left with no warning" Hunt said pacing the room.

"She left a note" Amelia mentioned.

"Yeah the kids and I are safe. That's helpful" Callie chuckled thinking it was insane.

"I called Yang again but she hasn't heard from Mer since the funeral" Alex added.

"Are you serious? That was weeks ago" Bailey said astonished.

"She called me last week. Mentioned something about my dad's stuff and if I wanted anything. I just told her I would come by when I was ready. She didn't mention anything about leaving" I muttered.

"Maybe we should call a detective" Callie suggested.

"That's enough. She's gone because she wants to be gone. She doing the same as her mother" Richard said. Everyone got quiet.

"She's hurting... we all are" Jackson commented lightly stroking my back. I smiled at him.

The months had slowly rolled along and Meredith was still no where to be found. Easter and Memorial Day came and gone.

The hospital had thrown me a gender reveal party. Jackson and I were having a boy this time.

The summer was coming to an end and the baby was due any day now.

I had taken maternity leave a few weeks ago and had been spending the days with Gia, knowing the attention was going to receive once the baby was born was far less.

I was currently in the Starbucks drive through line when I felt a gush of water run down my legs.

I grabbed my drink and began the drive to the hospital.

I waddled through the parking lot with Gia holding my hand. We walked into the hospital and headed up to the daycare floor.

"Is there a board meeting today?" Bailey questioned as she walked in.

"No" I answered.

"Then why are you here? Go home relax" Bailey commented.

"I'm here to have the baby" I said hunching over in pain as a contraction hit.

"Oh my god. Let me get you a wheelchair" Bailey said all panicked as the elevator doors opened.

"I'm fine Bailey. Let me drop Gia off and then I'll go admit myself"

"No, you will not. Give me the child and you go to the fifth floor" Bailey said grabbing Gia's hand and walking her over to the daycare.

As I exited the elevator a nurse came over.

"Dr Shepherd?"

"I'm having a baby" I said in between contractions. She quickly got a wheelchair and ushered me into a room.

"Hey I'm here. Pushed my surgery off until tomorrow" Jackson muttered all out of breath. He looked like he had sprinted around the hospital.

He grabbed my hand and pushed the strands of hair out of my face.

"Okay, let's do this" the doctor said.

Jackson and I crammed into the hospital bed holding our new sweet baby boy.

"Oh give him to grandma" Catherine cooed as she walked in with Gia. I switched off giving the baby to Catherine and propping Gia in the bed with us.

"What's his name?" Catherine asked.

Jackson and I exchanged a look.

"Jacob Derek Avery" we both said in unison. Catherine's smile melted even more.

"He is so watching over you" Catherine whispered as she rocked Jacob back and forth.

I looked around the hospital room. I was beyond blessed with two beautiful children and a wonderful husband. I was beyond lucky.....
