Broken Pieces (Naruto and Boruto Reader Insert)

Chapter 28

Toneri watched as you ate your breakfast, before you woke up this morning he made sure to offer you a meal before you left.

You...Had quite the appetite but it was mainly because of your immune system required a lot of energy and of course, food. It was wasn't surprising, to see you eat so much. But he couldn't deny that it was nice to have someone eat with him willingly, unlike the last time.

He almost winced as the memory resurfaced, maybe it was the lack of interaction that he had with others. With his father gone, he really had no one else, and at some point, he really cared for Hinata. Unfortunately, and fortunately, she didn't feel the same way, and she would never would. She was in love with Naruto, and although at that time Naruto wasn't, he couldn't bring himself to force her to do something that she didn't want. How would it be to have someone with you when you knew that they didn't love you, and they never would.


But fortunately, because of Naruto and his friends, he managed to gather back his sanity and things had worked out. He was lonely, that he could not deny, but it was something that wasn't new to him.

It was interesting to see you just so...Calm, eating with such content in your face. Despite being attacked by members of his clan, you still believed him. That gesture was enough to bring a smile to his face, you believed him, you didn't blame him for what Momoshiki had done to you.

Toneri didn't know you that well, but from the moment he began to gather information about you, he knew that you were selfless. Despite the life you had, which was not the best, you used your ability to help your friends. Even when you had been given their backs, this wasn't the first, and yet, if it came to fight one of your friends, you would let them harm you rather than defending yourself.

"Aren't you going to eat?" You stopped eating to look at him, but he shook his head.

"I'm not hungry, when you're done and you're ready I can take you to a location that you desire." Pushing aside the place of food, he replied.

It seemed you were refinished, you took the last sip of your beverage on nodded. "Thank you, I would really appreciate. And thank you for the meal." Because it had been days since you last ate.

Once satisfied, you let the meal settle in your belly giving you enough time to think of your next action. Given that the attacks were already starting, they would continue and you'll have to fight back.

Letting out a long breath, you raised your gaze and stared at Toneri. The male was just staring at his drink, as if he too was battling his own demons. "Toneri?" You asked, your voice snapped him out of his thoughts. "I know I may be asking too much, but there is a place I want to go. But for that, I need your help."

"Yes of course, what is it?" He asked, a tone of eagerness in his voice.

"I need to speak with Naruto, but for that I need someone that can get me out of there as soon as they plan to either attack or try to capture me. But if you can't, I'll understand."

Toneri didn't reply right away, he seemed to have been debating whether he could help you with it or not. From the way his eyebrows furrowed, the reason for his hesitation seemed very serious."Very well, I shall help you."

The two of you got ready, and then he took you to the Hokage's office. The office was crowded, Naruto, Shikamaru, and four other individuals were there. They jumped ready to attack, but once they realized that it was you, the relaxed.

Naruto looked awful, he looked like he hadn't slept in days and as if he had lost weight. It was inevitable not to feel heartbroken to see him like that, and all because of your mistake. Naruto seemed happy to see you but refrained from approaching you and alarming you.  Their eyes trailed to Toneri, who was standing behind you with his hand on your shoulder, Naruto seemed to recognize him but he didn't say anything about it. Instead, his gaze returned to you.

"I am here to clear things up," you began, "in a moment of my... weakness I made myself vulnerable and allowed someone to take advantage of it.I know that it doesn't matter what I say, but it won't undo what I did. But I am deeply sorry," your eyes trailed to the other individuals, Hashimara was among them, and since their faces looked as young as him, you could as assume it was them. Besides, there was one of them who looked as if he could be Naruto's younger brother.

"I never intended for this to happen, but it is done. Naruto I know how much trouble this brought upon you, and it's because of that your under so much stress. I wish I could do something but I am afraid it is beyond that."

"You can turn yourself in," the one who resembled Naruto a lot, his father suggested.

You were not sure how good their prison was and if they would be actually be able to keep you imprisoned. If they did, you couldn't imagine what kind of life awaited you, and for how long since you wouldn't be able to age.  "We all know what kind of life will await me, and I'm not going to just turn myself in. Either way, I just wanted to let you now that from now on, I won't use the transfer technique, that is, to help anyone with fatal wounds. I promise you that, so I hope you can understand that if I stumble on any of your Shinobi, I'll try not to injure them fatality." Then you remembered about Momoshiki, and that there was a probability that he would pursue you, but they don't need to know that. "As for Momoshiki, he isn't here, apparently he has returned to his clan. But that does not guarantee that he won't attack again."

Glancing at Toneri, you nodded. "And, I know that it won't be easy to live in a new era but you can try. Or," swallowing the sir taste, you explained, "since I was responsible, if it is something that you wish, I can end it upon your request. Although I won't be visible, I'll have my ears opened so just...Let me know."

That's when they moved, trying to probably stop you but you surrounded yourself  and Toneri in a protective barrier. The bottom of it are away the floor, so that left the two of you flooring. "Again I am sorry, I hope you can say my goodbyes to the others, specially Gaara. Please tell him that I would never do anything that would bring him trouble, that's why I didn't accept his offer."

Before Naruto had anything to say, Toneri took the two of you away to the last location that you had told him about. It was one of the hideouts that belonged to the Akatsuki, it has been so many years that it was used, no one knew about it. That is, only the Akatsuki members.

Toneri left you close to it, he would know about your location but in the short amount of time you spent with him, he proved that you could trust him. His only parting words were a 'goodbye, and take care of yourself,' before he banished.

Toneri may not realize it, but he has helped you tremendously by taking you to Naruto and bringing you here. Hopefully as long as you staid here, you won't be bothered.
