Ruins, once again the Hidden Leaf Village was left in ruins just like it was left many years ago. With hard work, everyone was able to build the village from the ground.
Shikamaru never imagined that his own son would have to face a war. If anything, he would have given anything in the world to prevent such experience. Unfortunately, there is always someone who wants power.
Shikadai had spent so many years of his life, his childhood had been ripped from his grasp thanks to the war. Now, he was just a freshly new adult, just like many others.
But the war was yet to be far from being finished, despite the news that Ayato had been killed by your very own hands. You had given them peace, or that had been in your mind before you left. That wasn't the case, there was someone else who had showed up and taken advance of the Village's vulnerability.
Everyone's spirits were on the ground, with no Naruto and Sasuke, well, it was a hard blow to everyone's morale. And then, you decided to leave for once and for all. You wanted a normal life and as much as he hated to admit, it wouldn't be within the reach of you if you had staid with them.
Your decision was not taken too well, Tobimara, Madara, Goro and Izuna had left right away in hopes of finding you. It had taken so much will for Kiba, Neji, Kabuto and Itachi not to leave as well. These were just a few of those who had and probably still were willing to go after you.
But there was a bigger problem at hand, something that still needed to be solved. No one knew for certain if Naruto and Sasuke were alive or dead, but the cries of pain from Sarada, and of course, Boruto and his sister were loud and clear. They wanted to believe that they were alive, that they were somewhere else fighting but a part of them convinced them that they were killed.
That only lead to one thing...No, one person they were going to go and find the only person capable of returning them back to them. They were not the only ones, Shinki would probably join them, with Gaara's disappearance, he was most likely going to do the same.
"This,"rubbing his face, he glanced at Sarada and Boruto, "is unreasonable. You don't know if they're dead, they may still be alive."
Sarada looked as if she had not slept in days, "they're gone, it has been over two weeks. If that was the case, we should have found a clue. Bu-" she refrained from letting tears to leave her eyes.
Boruto was silent, but that silence only made Shikamaru understand that he was thinking the same. "We'll find her."
Shikamaru wasn't the only one around, a lot were around too, Boruto's grandfather was present too. Shikamaru sent Minato a glance asking for him to say something, but the man knew that there was nothing that he could say that would stop them from leaving.
"She doesn't want to be disturbed," it was Jiraiya who stepped in. "The least we can do for her, is to give her the peace she wants. If you find her, you're going to throw her into dispear and grief once again."
"No," Sarada swallows hard as her chest ached, "this is the least she could do after all she did." Deep down she knew she was being selfish to say that, but the pain was eating her heart away. She couldn't think of how her life would be without her father. You didn't owe her anything, not after what you did for her, even after all the things she said to you. But she was desperate, you could bring him back, back to her. She didn't care if his father decided to stay with you, she knew how much his father loved you. She knew that despite how much he loved you, he chose to stay close to his daughter rather than trying to allow him to be happy.
Not being able to contain her tears anymore, so she turned around and walked away. Boruto glanced at Sarada then back at the others, "I understand how crazy this sounds, but it's important to bring them back to life. They're the only ones that know who attacked the Village, the last thing we want is for us to continue to be attacked and for us not to know who is really our enemy." He too walked away, following Sarada. His eyes trailed to his mother and sister who were occupied trying to help the injured and sick. It was true, but it was not just that. He wanted his father back, to be able to spend more time with his father something he wasn't able to do when be was a child.
Sarada and Boruto were being selfish, he knew that. They had no right to search for you and only for you to help them being their fathers back. But from what his father told him, you were a very kind and understanding. If they spoke with you, you would understand. At least they hoped you would be willing to help.
"We will go with her," Hiruzen, Tobimara and Hashimara stepped forward. They'll need all the help they can get.
But then Shino stepped forward, "I may be of help too. I'm sure I can track her down so I'll come with."
The Village was vulnerable, and every person lending their protection would guarantee the safety of the civilians but there was truth in Boruto's words. They spent years at war fighting an unknown enemy, and Ayato had been the person who knew who the enemy was. But he was willing to offer that information in exchange of something, and to even think of what it could be, it made Shikamaru shudder.
Right now, as cliché as it sounded, they needed your help once again. Perhaps after the the real enemy was killed, maybe you could form the life that you wanted with perhaps the person you loved and the person that loves you.
For now you'll just have to forgive them from interrupting the peace and maybe happiness you managed to obtain since you left.
