Sometimes, you could be too naive hoping that maybe, just maybe you would be able to convince people. Much like you intended to do with Kawaki, but when you found yourself being separated from your crew, and in a different place and possibly, a different world, facing the young man.
"I'm guessing there's no talking you out of this, is there?" Although he had yet to attack, but the way he stood, he was here for one purpose and that was to fight. Your gaze softened, "well, it's a matter of time before the others find us. Do your worse."
But, he then spoke. "I can't understand you," his body relaxed, "with all what has been done, you should be angry."
"What happened to me is not everyone's fault, I can't blame everyone for it. And those who did it, have done so much to redeem themselves that they have my forgiveness." You paused, " I know you're angry, but it isn't everyone's fault."
"This is going to happen, to continue to happen to others as long as Ninja continue to exist." His hands formed fists at his side, the pain plaguing his mind. Remembering all of those years of experiments, and if he didn't move on from it, it would hunt him forever.
"That's where you're wrong, maybe you can get rid of all the Ninja but there will always be someone evil and it doesn't necessarily need to be a ninja. What people do, that's something we can't change Kawaki." Taking a step forward, you continued, "just because someone, be it a ninja, experimented on doesn't mean that it's everyone's fault."
"They could have done something," he barked, his voice so angry that it made you pause. He really was so angry with people for not answering to his calls of help.
"Naruto and everyone else did what they could to find you," because Naruto was just like that, unwilling to let go of someone he cared for. "And I'm sure you know, that you just don't want to admit it."
It must have been true, his gaze lowered, and he relaxed for a few seconds before he gave you his attention once again. "Jigen wants you dead," he confessed, "unless you're willing to join us."
"We both know that's not going to happen, Kawaki." It was upsetting that it didn't matter what you told him, be wasn't going to change his mind. Taking out your kunai, you nodded at him. "Fighting you was the last thing I wanted to do, but so far you're not going to change your mind."
There weren't many people that Kawaki respected, he owed Naruto more than he imagined. Naruto and his family welcomed him and taught him love and helped him enjoy life at least for some time. But, there was just one person who he respected and admired, and that person was standing in front of him.
Sometimes he asked himself why you were such and idiot by allowing yourself to always out yourself in danger for the sake of others. But that was one of the things that made him respect you and of course admire you. He admired how you, despite all the things you went through, you still remained on the road that you wanted. Your experiences never changed your path, you didn't turn evil and you definitely didn't blame anyone for your fate. "Why?" You still didn't want to fight him, and he wanted to hear your reasons.
"What?" You relaxed as you questioned him fathered puzzled unsure what he wanted to know. Why what?
"I am your enemy, and yet it's still clear you're not willing to fight me. Why?" His heart ached, wanting to hear your words.
Your eyes, they weren't looking at him as if you wanted to kill him with it. It was soft, a look people often gave to those they cared about. "I didn't know what you went through, and I can understand only a portion of what you went through. But, you didn't have anyone at your side while I did. You were suffering alone with no one at your side, but," swallowing hard you put away your kunai. "Not anymore," then you began to take a step forward, "you don't have to do this. I know when you were a child, you were not able to take control of your life, to make your own choices. But now you can, you're stronger than you give yourself credit for. You can make your own choices, and you don't have to do it alone, you have Naruto and his family..."
His gaze looked tired, "it's not as simple as that. I want to get rid of the Kāma seal, and for that I need Jigen." He promised that he would get rid of it, but now he wasn't so sure if he would go through that promise. Much like he promised him when he was a kid that he wouldn't suffer any longer and all of that had been nothing but a lie.
Walking fast but not fast enough as to alert him and then you stopped to stand in front of him. Standing so close to him, you were making yourself so vulnerable to him, and he knew that. Taking your hand forward, you smiled. "I cannot promise you that finding a solution to it will be easy, but together we can find it. And not just me, there are a lot who are willing to help you." He wasn't moving, so you leaned forward and grasped his hand and took it in yours.
Almost, he almost pulled away. "I've cause-"
"So have I, they just need time to heal. What do you say? You can help Jigen but, all this pain and hate you have will not be quenched by killing all the Ninja in the world." But, he wasn't responding and instead, his gaze married, so you let go of his hand and you began to walk backwards, "I see, if that is your choice then there is no other way."
But, you didn't get far as he grasped your hand so fast that you almost retrieved your kunai thinking that he was attacking. Instead, he just likes at your hand, his face relaxed and then he nodded. "Jigen is a very powerful man, along with Kara."
Squishing his hand, you couldn't help but feel warmth wash over you. "Together we can put a stop to this, just like we've done before. I promise we will go through this."
"I'll," he didn't let go of your hand and instead, he squished it, "I'll take you to Naruto and the others. They're alive."
It was strange to have the person he admired the most in front of him. No one knew, not even Jigen that the person who kept him from committing suicide was the woman that Jigen often talked about. It was no secret that Jigen had his sight on you for a very long time, but he never took action because he wasn't ready.
That was how Kawaki knew of you, and that was since he was so small. All the pain he felt as a kid was numbed by the thought that there was someone else who knew his pain, and yet despite all of that, you were a very strong person. You gave him courage, and the will to live.
He never imagined that one day not only would be get to meet you, but have you believing in him. He always resented Jigen for not completing what he promises, but you...Glancing down at your hand, he felt the calmest be had ever in his life. For once he felt like he could really, really trust someone, it was you. If there was one person who would keep their promise, that person was you.
Besides, he liked the sensation of having you at his side.
