They just battled Momoshiki, and they returned to the village only to be notified that the village was attacked. The damage was minimum, but that wasn't what made him worried. The amount of enemies they attacked was about 100 or so, and it shouldn't have been difficult to fight back. But like before, they had healing abilities, and most of them were either kids, teens, or old people who looked like they had no idea how to fight back.

It had a negative effect on the Leaf Village' Shinobi. When they noticed that these were just ordinary people, they were holding back which caused a lot of them to be injured. In the end, they had to fight back, which was not a pretty sight and the moral of the Shinobi was completely deplorable.

The most terrifying part was that there were others who dragged the corpses of those dead to an unidentified location. And why did they even need those corpses?

[Name] was responsible, [Name] was a criminal, and [Name] was with those criminals and was behind all of this. Your name left the mouths of the rest of the Kages and even the councils, but it was easier to blame you about it instead of finding the one responsible.

Maybe you were traveling with Madara, Izuna and Obito, they were responsible for so many deaths. Yes, that was right, but if you really wanted revenge, you would have done so long ago.

Besides, Gaara told him about your reports, about how much you wanted to help solve the disappearances despite all that had been done to you. He felt guilty, guilty of not doing more than he should have. Gaara dismissed the council because he knew you would never dare to hurt others, he continued to defend you.

He didn't, because he wanted to protect his people and his home, he listened to the council despite knowing who you really were. Despite his heart being filled with guilt, he listened to them.

His younger self would be so ashamed and disappointed, because his younger self would have told the council to shut up. He would have left the village and bring you back, like he once promised to Sakura that he would bring Sasuke back.

His head pounded, he hasn't slept in days now. He ordered around to fix what had been destroyed, and to increase the protection of the village. The gates had been closed until further notice, and right now the last thing he needed was to listen to Boruto.

"Please, you have to go and see mom." Boruto ordered his father, and all Naruto could do was just watch his son.

He wasn't the child he once was, he turned fourteen already and had grown so fast. It was as if this was the first time he truly noticed how much his son has changed. "I can't," sadly he had to respond, "I need t-"

"You need to resolve all of this!" Anger flashed in his eyes, "but when are you going to save your marriage dad? You're so focused on saving the village, saving the people but what about mom?What...Why? Don't you love her anymore?" Boruto sounded defeated, so exhausted.

Hinata was too kind, loved her family to death. She never asked anything of him, not even telling him about the lack of presence in the family. She never expected anything from him, she understood him, she understood him. She understood that he was busy, that he lived his home so much that he was willing to sacrifice himself if it meant that he could keep everyone safe.

This of course, gave Naruto all the freedom and as much as he hated it, he distanced himself not only from her but also his children. Since you left, nothing has been the same. And that also meant that his relationship with her. That's why he couldn't answer Boruto's question, did he love her? He wanted to say that he did, they shared so many years together, but he couldn't utter that sentence.

"Of course you don't," Boruto answered for him, "you love her, don't you?" Her. [Name], that was who he was talking about. Boruto blamed you for the failure of his marriage, Sarada blamed you for the separation of his parents, and for Shikamaru's marriage too. They blamed you for it, but if there was someone to blame, it would have to be themselves.
