“How did you know, with your insects?” More than nervous and panicked, you were curious as to how he was able to know that it was you. Or maybe he was confusing you with someone else, you couldn’t just blur out your name and if he was talking about someone else, then you’ll be exposing yourself.
As if on cue, a beetle emerged from the fabric of your clothing and flew to the palm of his hand. “You can hide your chakra as much as you want, but there was a small trail of it. My bugs were able to sense it. We may not have been close, but my bugs and I am more than familiar with your chakra signature. It wasn’t easy, but I recognized it.”
Finally, you smiled and it showed through your mask. “Wow,” the beetle was still in the palm of his hand, so you reached forward and easily crawled into the palm of your hand, “I'm very impressed, Shino.” Looking away from the battle and to the man standing in front of you, you smiled even wider, the two of you may not be very close but you were very happy to see him again. “It’s so good to see you after so many years.”
But he didn’t return a smile, and you weren’t able to see his eyes either to at least see in them if he showed any sort of emotion having you standing in front of him. “Why are you here?”
Or maybe he was worried that you were here for another reason, which was of course nothing good. “As long as you don't tell anybody, I'm going to be here for a couple of days. The only thing I want is to see how everyone is doing.” You erased the smile from your face and the worry and sadness leaked from that expression of yours.
“They’ll be happy to see you, I am certain.” As if trying to reason with you, he looked away.
They would, yes, but if they found out that you were here you wouldn’t allow you to leave. “I know,” looking away as well, you replied. “But they probably already have families and let's be honest, deep down they convinced themselves that I died." Letting out a shaky breath, you stared at Shino as if the longer you stared at him the longer you'll memorize his face from when you left. "It's better to keep it that way."
“But you're not dead.” He snapped, something quite rare of him really. He’s usually calm and collected, he rarely showed any other emotions and this is the first time you’ve experienced it.
He didn’t understand, you may look younger than him, but the two of you were about the same age, you were older than him for crying out loud! The others moved on, probably have kids by now and you….You weren’t even sure if you’ll ever be able to have children of your own. That’s why you hadn’t returned too.
But you didn’t need to read their minds to know that they believed that together you’ll find a solution. “I-“
“Shino, I have been looking everywhere for you.” Kiba landed a few meters away from you. Just like Shino, he has also matured a lot. He looked very manly, very mature, and if there was no grin on his face, he would look intimidating. His eyes trailed from Shino to you, his eyes grin widened. “Shino, who’s your friend?”
The way his trailed from the two of you, he probably got the wrong idea. Since Shino didn’t say a word, probably since he understood that denying it wouldn’t convince Kiba. Clearing your throat, you couldn’t stop smiling. “Oh no, you got it all wrong.I-“ you walked closer and extended your arm for him to shake, “I am [Fake Name], pleased to meet you.”
When you got closer, the grin on his face banished as he sniffed the air. He didn’t shake your hand as he sniffed again, probably finding your scent familiar. You just let your arm fall at your side and walked back you were you had been standing. “Anyway, I just arrived to the village and I met Shino today. I was asking him if he could give he a tour of the village but he’s very busy.”
Kiba’s eyes trailed to the ground as if thinking or trying to figure out why your scent seemed so familiar. “I see,” he tried to smile, “I am Kiba, Shino's friend and it’s also a pleasure to meet you. Anyway, I am sure that Sheno wouldn’t mind showing you around on his day off.”
You wanted to drink in their facial features, you wanted to memorize their faces so that you’ll be able to remember them. “I would really appreciate it,” sending them a smile, you began to walk away, “you’re both busy so I’ll just go ahead and leave.”
The two of them we’re left alone, but Shino could not ignore the lingering gaze on Kiba. The way he stared at you longer than necessary. “I don’t understand why find the need of pushing her onto me.”
They needed to know that you’re here, but it wasn’t up to him to reveal that truth. If you didn’t want them to know then he couldn’t just let them all know. Unless of course if they asked, he wasn’t going lie. By how impacted Kiba was with your presence, it wouldn’t take too long for them to find out.
