Your heart beat against your ribcage, just one more, just one was left. Hidan was the last person that you needed to revive, and then you would be done.
So many memories, some had slipped from your hands by now. You were not able to remember anything by now, other than these people. And even so, some of the faces like Nagato, Yahiko and Konan were just a few that you were beginning to forget too.
Every morning you would wake up, and the first things you did was to try to remember something. You only knew your name because they told you, you only knew about your mission because they explained it to you.
But there was a price you had to pay for it, and it had been your memories. The more you used this technique, the more you lost. You stared at the man's face, you hesitated. What would happen after you revived this man? Would you remember Nagato, Yuhiko, Kisame, Deirara, Sasori, Kakuzu,Suikotsu, Karin, and Jūgo, and Konan?
They were all you remembered, they were all you had. What would it be of you once you were finished? Would you just remember Hidan? Or would he also join the countless of important people you had forgotten?
Looking sadly at the ground, you kneeled down and prepared yourself. Someone's hand out pressure on your shoulder, it wasn't painful but reassuring. Turning your head just a bit to see who it was, Yahiko stood at your side, a smile on his face. But that smile seemed forced, as if he was trying his best to smile just to ease your fear.
You wanted to say no, you tried to sommany times before but you never gathered the energy to do so. It wasn't that you were scared, it was because although you didn't remember, something told you that you had to continue. That's why you always pushed yourself to complete it, even at the expense of your memories. "Everything will be okay, we will be there when you wake up."
Something squished at your insides, your chest ached but it wasn't physical. "I know what will happen," you tried to smile but teardrops landed on the ground instead, you tried not to cry. You hated crying, so when you heard steps from the others, you cleaned your tears and placed your hands on Hidan's chest. "Just promise me something, don't restart my heart when I'm done. “You knew what their goal would be about, so you doubted that they would keep you around. They would probably leave you behind because you would just be a liability to them. "I hate this, I feel like an empty shell..." Finally meeting their gazes, you began to revive Hidan.
"[Name]..." Yahiko began, obviously against the idea.
Shaking your head, you pulled your hand back and then stood up. This time you were facing them all. They were the only people you remembered, they were the only ones keeping you sane, all of your memories were gone. Once you forgot them, then you would be left with nothing.
"It was an honor to be able to work with each and one of you," you began, "you're all I know but I feel that once I'm done with Hidan, I won't be able to remember any of you. It's hard as it is not being able to remember my past as bad as it was."
Taking a deep breath, you returned to your former position and began the process. Small droplets landed on Hidan's chest, the others moved away giving you some privacy.
It was hard to see you crying, maybe it was fear of maybe it was the fact that this was your goodbye. Whether they liked to admit not or not, you considered them friends. You were just that kind of person who despite knowing what they had done, was willing to give them a chance. So it wasn't hard to gain their respect and be considered a friend by some of them, and a comrade by the others.
Having to look at you while you revived Hidan was excruciating, painful even. You didn't even get to pull back as you began to slowly lean back, and back until you landed on your back. Hidan began to rise up, and then continued to stand up. "Who the fuck is this chick?" Poking you with his foot, he asked.
Everyone remained silent for a few seconds, "fuck this shit." Suigetsu rushed to your side and began to do CPR.
"Suigetsu, what do you think you're doing?" Konan spoke ready to stop him. But Jūgo blocked her back.
"You were the one to make that promise, not me." For whatever reason, Suigetsu decided to act. With all the shit they had to endure under Ayato's power and you had freed them all.
Karen crossed her arms across her chest, glancing from Suigetsu to Yahiko, and then just let out a long sigh.
For the last time, the male pressed his ear against your chest and he was able to relax when he heard a heartbeat. "She's fine, she just need some rest."
"You know, she's better off dead. With all she's been through, she definitely needed the long overdue rest." Kisame's words were not far from true, but for Sugetsu didn't seem right.
Scoffing, Suigetsu mirrored Karin's pose. "Well, now that she doesn't have any memories, she can start anew. It just feels wrong to toss her aside once she finished her mission. Is that how it is?" Though that question was directed towards Yahiko and Nagato.
Hidan scoffed, "so that's who that chick is?" Kneeling down to look at you, he took out a knife and made a semi large cut on your cheek. Instantly it began to heal, though as the other observed, not as fast as it normally did. "So the rumors are true then?" A wicked smile reaching his lips, "once this is all over, I will definitely test those rumors myself."
"The closest Village is inhabited by corpses, that's where we will leave her." Nagato finalized as he walked away.
The other followed after, it wasn't time to be emotional, they was a task that needed to be done and they couldn't just nope around. And maybe Suigetsu wasn't wrong, with your past long gone from your memories, maybe you would be able to start a new life.
Maybe they were not wrong, maybe you could start a new life, new memories to be made. What they miscalculated was that your mind would be completely blank, ready to shaped and molded to the image of someone else. Sadly, as they left you on that lonely village, once again you would be abandoned and alone.
This time, this time you would find yourself at the mercy of someone else and all of them would soon regret it.
