It had been hours before anyone told him any news to him. Even Sakura who had been summoned by Orochimaru had yet to exit the room. Then almost just when it was starting to get dark, Sakura opened the door and stared at Sasuke as if she was expecting him to leave. "I thought you were gone."

Has Sasuke remained on that spot, he would have noticed the sad expression on her face. But the exhaustion from trying to keep your stable got the best of her and a she did was to take a long inhale.

"What happened." When he entered he was met with you on the bed and you looked...As if...Before he left that thought to finish, he glanced at Orochumaru and waited for an explanation.

"The treatment had a side effect, we had to make sure that it was out of her system, hence the amount of hours that took us. But it is hard to tell if it was completely removed from her system." It didn't work, in fact they almost lost you in the process.

Sasuke wasn't satisfied with the answer, as if he needed to see that you were fine, he walked to your side. There was barely any color on your face, you looked so pale. "Why isn't she awake or healing?"

There was a IV connected to your veins and he wasn't sure what was that liquid that was now entering into your system. He didn't know to know any of that, it didn't matter, what mattered was to see you awake...So that his chest would stop hurting. "Like I said, the treatment did not work and as a consequence, her body began to convulse and...Her immune system was impacted by it. Had we not interfered, she would have died."

Died...You would have died. "She's stable at the moment, I'll do some blood work but for the time being Sakura will be in charge of her well being.", Orochumaru walked out of the room and left the three of you alone.

Sakura would leave any minute, but she took a few moments to study Sasuke. She would lie if she said she didn't still love that man. Sasuke had always and will always be the love of her life. However, Sasuke did not feel the same way. In fact, she had been such a dreamer to believe that she would be able to make him fall in love with her.

Sometimes she wondered why he married her in the first place. Why? Maybe he wanted to move on with his life, just like many did. But then you appeared and...And all of those feelings were awakened and it became hard for him to stay at her side. This was not your fault, her separation...She would never regret having her daughter, she loved her more than she loved herself but...Deep down she knew that if you had not disappeared like you did...They would have not happened.

Maybe she would also have to thank you for that. Smiling, even if her chest felt like it was breaking, she smiled. "She isn't immortal," she began to speak but Sasuke was just staring her you, "I know you're still hesitant about doing something...To make a future with her but...She is not immortal. She almost died because of this treatment, and...She would not have minded if she died.  Just because this treatment didn't work doesn't mean she's going to give up. Enjoy her as much as you can, be there for her. If you don't, one day she won't be there and then you would regret not taking the initiative of creating the future you have always wanted with her."

Almost, the tears almost spilled from her eyes and that was here cue to leave. But the words remained in Sasuke's head. You weren't immortal...The male rubbed his face  for a few seconds until he couldn't hold it any more and he buried his face where your shoulder met your neck. And then he hugged you the best as he could, but it was that moment when he felt your arms on his back and returning the gesture.  " I'm sorry," even your voice sounded strained as if you were under so much pain.

He didn't want to pull away, he wanted to feel you, to have you in his arms as long as he could but he pulled away. Then it was that you saw his tears. "You..." He cleaned his tears, "what...Why are you intent on doing this? Are you this desperate to die?"

Before you answered, you sat up and then took out the IV. He noticed that as soon as you got rid of it, it quickly began to heal. "It's better than seeing everyone else die."

He couldn't understand why you were just so obstinate about finding a cure, what was so wrong about not aging? Wasn't that what women wanted? Everlasting beauty? But you weren't just anybody.

"Everyone is aging, everyone is having a family of their own. That's what I want but for that to happen...I want to get rid of this..." You motioned to your body, "I just can't bare the thought of see how everyone else grow old and then...and then die. That's just so painful to even imagine." The pain, it was written all over your face. Instead of remaining on the bed, you jumped to your feet.

What else could he say? The treatment would be the end of you if it did not work. "Go back to bed," he snapped as you began to search around for your clothing, only for you to frown when you didn't find it.

"I'm alive and it's a waste of time to be here." Sasuke watched you keep looking, and you looked so frustrated.

Although he hesitated, and...He didn't reach out to you when you opened the door and began to walk out the door. Then Sakura's words... They echoed in his mind, what if you really died? Then...That pushed him foward, only for his eyes to widen when you were there, just... Swaying. But then your feet gave up and down you went.

Quickly he moved to stop your fall, you handed in his arm as you completely lost all your strength. He sat down on the ground with you now seating on his lab, you were awake but your face contorted in pain. Even through the pain, with trembling hands you shielded your face and you began to cry.

You cried and cried and not for the physical pain, it killed him seeing you like this. His hold on you tightened and he brought your  body closer to his body. That was all you needed as you shifted your body and threw your arms around his neck. You buried your face on the crook of his neck as you continued to cry in despair.

More than the treatment, the main source of your death will be you if you continued to look for a cure. Many would say that you had your friends that you could rely on, but there was nothing better than to have your parents with you...Or someone that could give you a reason to live.

Maybe...Maybe he could be that reason...Maybe he could also be selfish too…Because honestly it was killing him not to have you at his side.
